Renk’s Strategic Ambitions Clash with Political Reality as Stock Hits New 52-Week Low

Defence supplier Renk sees shares drop 52% from peak after Berlin scraps F126 frigate project, even as Q1 orders surge to €582M and 2026 revenue guidance confirmed.

The defence sector’s usual tailwinds have done little to shield Renk from a perfect storm of policy risk and investor apathy. While the group lays out an ambitious roadmap to more than double revenue by 2030, its shares have tumbled to a fresh 52-week trough of 41.01 euro, recovering only slightly to close at 42.18 euro on Thursday. That leaves the stock down over 23% since the start of the year and more than 52% below the all-time high of nearly 89 euro.

Political shock from Berlin delivered the latest blow. Defence Minister Boris Pistorius abruptly scrapped the multi-billion-euro F126 frigate project, opting instead for ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems’ Meko A-200 DEU design. That decision cuts Renk out of a major future programme and sent a chill through the wider defence supply chain, dragging down Rheinmetall and Hensoldt alongside Renk. The getriebe specialist now faces an uphill battle to secure work on the replacement vessels.

Operational strength, market weakness – that divide has widened to a chasm. Renk’s first-quarter results for 2026 showed order intake surging past 582 million euro, with an adjusted operating margin of 15%. Management confirmed its full-year guidance of at least 1.5 billion euro in revenue, noting that nearly all expected sales are already under contract. A new video from the International Investment Forum detailed the group’s ambition to become a pure-play defence technology powerhouse, targeting more than 2.8 billion euro in sales by 2030. Yet the market remains unmoved.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Renk?

Technical indicators flash oversold but offer no fundamental relief. The Relative Strength Index has sunk to 31.7 in some readings and 33.5 in others, signalling that buying pressure is exhausted and a short-term bounce is possible. However, the stock trades well below both its 50-day and 200-day moving averages. Should the share price breach the psychologically important 41-euro mark, further losses toward the 40-euro threshold could follow.

The calendar offers a few near-term catalysts. Renk will host a pre-close call on 16 July covering the first half of the year, with official half-year results due on 6 August. Management has reiterated its forecast, but investors will be watching closely for any update on alternative contracts to replace the lost F126 business. Until new major orders materialise, the pressure on the share price is unlikely to ease.
