The divergent narratives emerging around Renk this week paint a striking picture: a company boasting record order books and a flashy new product unveiling, yet watching its shares get battered by forces entirely outside its control. On Monday, the stock closed at €45.52, shedding 3.56% in a single session, and the pain has been compounding. Over the past seven trading days, Renk has lost 11.46%, landing at €45.33 by Tuesday’s close — a level that sits nearly 49% below the 52-week high of €88.73 touched in October last year.

The selloff is not company-specific but rather a broad rotation out of European defense stocks. Reports of a possible framework agreement to end the Iran conflict have prompted investors to shift capital into more cyclical sectors, putting Rheinmetall and Hensoldt under similar pressure. Speculation about potential cuts to the MGCS tank project has added another layer of uncertainty. Renk’s relative strength index now stands at 35.9, creeping toward oversold territory.

None of this macro gloom, however, has dampened the company’s operational momentum. At the Eurosatory trade show in Paris, Renk and Finnish partner Patria unveiled a heavy autonomous tank concept built on the TRACKX platform. Renk supplies the transmission and electronic control system — a roughly 700-kilogram module that can propel the vehicle to 90 kilometres per hour. The partners developed the system in under two years, and Patria already placed a pre-series order in early 2026. Series production is targeted for next year.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Renk?

Chief executive Alexander Sagel used the show to press for a quicker pace in European defense procurement, noting in an interview that the Bundeswehr is in worse shape now than before the Ukraine war. He also highlighted Renk’s ample capacity reserves: the company can triple its gearbox production, and current lead times run about twelve months. To sustain growth, Renk is investing the equivalent of 3% of annual revenue through 2030, with its Rheine site being systematically converted into a military hub.

The underlying financials provide a sturdy foundation for that expansion. At the end of March, Renk sat on a record order backlog of €6.9 billion. First-quarter 2026 revenue climbed just over 4% to €283.61 million, while earnings per share jumped from €0.01 to €0.15. Analysts currently forecast full-year EPS of €1.73. The company’s next milestone comes on August 6, when it publishes its half-year report — a chance to show whether the operating momentum can overcome the market’s persistent skepticism.

Meanwhile, the debate at Eurosatory is focusing on what European armies can realistically procure in the near term. The delayed MGCS project, now not expected until the 2040s, has created an opening for interim solutions. Both KNDS and Rheinmetall are showing concepts like the "MBT Vision 2032" — informally dubbed the Leopard 3 — and Renk is a natural supplier of transmissions for those platforms. Modernized battle tanks need more powerful drivetrains, and that is squarely in Renk’s wheelhouse. The question for investors is how long it will take for that operational story to break through the sector’s current cloud cover.
