Renk shares slid more than 5% on Wednesday to €43.58, bringing the defence contractor within a whisker of its 52-week trough at €42.12. The latest leg lower was triggered by the stock’s removal from the iSTOXX Europe Centenary Select 30 Index at the start of the week, which forced passive funds to offload holdings and exacerbated selling pressure. Since the beginning of the year the company has shed roughly a fifth of its market value, while the 12-month decline now stands at close to 29%.

The sell-off comes despite a record order backlog of €6.9bn that already covers over 90% of the revenue target of more than €1.5bn set for 2026. Management spent Wednesday attending a Jefferies investor conference in Baden-Baden and a parallel trade show in Detroit focused on protected mobility systems, where it showcased the latest vehicle solutions. Yet the absence of fresh contract announcements or any revision to financial guidance left investors unimpressed, with the stock unable to find a bid in an otherwise busy week for corporate engagement.

Renk is also working to reshape its business mix. The newly developed ESM-280 gearbox, unveiled at Eurosatory, targets armoured wheeled vehicles with platforms rated up to 620 kW, broadening the company’s traditional focus on tracked systems. More ambitiously, it has teamed up with Finland’s Patria to deliver a heavy unmanned ground vehicle, for which Renk supplies the digital drive architecture — a “drive-by-wire” system that electronically controls steering and braking. The collaboration positions the firm as a systems integrator for future autonomous combat vehicles.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Renk?

Financially, the outlook remains solid on an operating basis. Renk’s adjusted EBIT margin is forecast to land between €255m and €285m in 2026, translating into an operating margin of roughly 15–16%. Jefferies, which reiterated its buy recommendation this week, trimmed its price target to €70 but still implied significant upside from current levels. The broker’s stance highlights the gap between the company’s operational health and its battered share price.

Technically, the stock is under severe pressure. It now trades about 20% below its 200-day moving average of €57.27. The relative strength index sits at around 36, not yet in oversold territory but indicating that further downside cannot be ruled out. A break below €42.12 would generate a bearish chart signal that could trigger additional selling.

The next major milestone for the equity is the pre-close call scheduled for 16 July, followed by the full half-year results on 6 August. Until then, the market is likely to remain in wait-and-see mode, with no near-term catalyst large enough to reverse the current trajectory. The real test will come when investors see whether the record order book is translating into cash flow and earnings delivery.
