Renk shares closed nearly 4% higher on Wednesday after its biggest shareholder, the Franco-German armoured vehicle joint venture KNDS, cut its stake from 15.83% to 10.03%, freeing up more stock for the open market. The move was greeted with relief by investors, who pushed the price to an intraday high of €53.53 before it settled at €52.73.

The paper now trades just above its 50-day moving average, a bullish short-term signal, but the technical picture is mixed. The relative strength index has climbed to 75.1, indicating a heat-up in the recent rally, and some measures even touch 78. Against the 200-day average, the shares still sit 11.14% lower, while the 12-month loss stands at 32.67%. Only a fortnight ago the stock touched a 52-week low of €43.99.

That turnaround has been underpinned by a first quarter that management says was the strongest opening period in the company's history. Group order intake rose 6.1% to €582.3 million, with revenue climbing to €283.6 million. Adjusted EBIT jumped to €42.4 million, lifting the margin to 15.0%. The order backlog swelled to a record €6.9 billion, giving the leadership concrete ammunition for its roadshow ahead.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Renk?

The star division remains Vehicle Mobility Solutions, where order intake surged 20.5% to €478.4 million. Segment revenue increased 11.2% to €191.5 million, and adjusted EBIT reached €35.0 million, pushing the margin from 16.6% to 18.3%. The growth was not universal, however: Marine & Industry saw order intake slump 42.8% to €70.0 million, and Slide Bearings fell 5.8% to €34.6 million, a sobering note in an otherwise buoyant picture.

Executives led by CEO Alexander Sagel are now taking the story to the investment community in person. This week the company appears at the Erste Group CEElection Conference in Warsaw and the dbAccess European Champions Conference in Frankfurt. June brings the DB Defence Conference in London and the Jefferies German & Swiss Corporate Conference in Baden-Baden. The focus will be on how the strong defence tailwinds translate into sustained order flow and progress on next-generation systems.

Renk is holding to its full-year guidance of revenue above €1.5 billion and adjusted EBIT in a range of €255 million to €285 million. Beyond current product lines, the company is developing a system package of electric motors, clutches and transmissions for an unmanned surface vessel for a NATO state, and is preparing a heavy UGV showcase model with Patria for Eurosatory 2026. Those themes are expected to feature prominently at the upcoming investor meetings.

The second-quarter figures are due on August 6, when the market will look for confirmation that the first-quarter momentum has carried through. With the free float now enlarged and the order book at a record, Renk has a stronger foundation from which to rebuild investor confidence after a difficult twelve months.
