Unregistered Newcastle gas fitter sentenced for illegal work and fake credentials

A Newcastle man who carried out dangerous gas work at five homes across the North East while using counterfeit credentials to deceive customers has been sentenced.
Alexander Robson, 38, of Fenham, performed gas installations and repairs at properties in Blyth, Ryton, Hexham, Winlaton and Newcastle between June and September 2024. He advertised his services on Facebook and distributed flyers featuring a fake Gas Safe logo — despite never being registered with the official Gas Safe Register.

Fraudulent business practices
Robson operated under the business names GasnHeat Plumberz and North East Renocationz, misleading customers about his qualifications and legal authority to carry out gas work.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) said Robson's actions involved deliberate deception through the use of a logo he was not entitled to display, alongside performing hazardous work without the required professional oversight.
Court proceedings
Robson appeared at South Tyneside Magistrates Court, where he pleaded guilty to 10 breaches of the Gas Safety Regulations following an HSE investigation into the safety and legality of the work.
Sentencing
On July 14, 2026, the court sentenced Robson to eight months' imprisonment, suspended for two years. He was also ordered to undergo a six-month mental health treatment programme and complete 30 days of rehabilitation activity.

The magistrates ordered Robson to pay £450 in compensation to his victims and £200 in legal costs.
