Vanguard’s €75 Billion Behemoth Gets Cheaper, But Not Cheapest

Vanguard's FTSE All-World ETF attracts $16B in 2026 inflows, outpacing rivals despite a 0.14% TER that still trails BlackRock and DWS at 0.12%.

European investors have been pouring money into Vanguard’s flagship global equity ETF at a pace that leaves rivals in the dust, even as the fund’s fee advantage erodes. The Vanguard FTSE All-World UCITS ETF USD Accumulation now holds nearly $75.7 billion in assets, having absorbed over $16 billion in fresh inflows since the start of 2026. Yet the fund’s latest price cut, effective July 28, still leaves it trailing competitors on cost.

The total expense ratio will drop from 0.19% to 0.14%, a reduction of more than a quarter. Vanguard’s own math suggests investors will collectively save around $37 million a year as a result. The move comes just months after BlackRock and DWS launched rival ETFs tracking the same FTSE All-World Index, both charging just 0.12%. That leaves Vanguard’s product two basis points more expensive than the cheapest options on the market.

Scale as a Weapon

Vanguard points to the fund’s sheer size as the rationale for the cut. With nearly $75.7 billion under management, economies of scale have made it cheaper to run, and the firm is passing those savings along. The fund has grown so quickly that this is already the second fee reduction within twelve months — the TER stood at 0.22% as recently as October.

The inflows tell a story that pure price comparisons cannot explain. Despite the higher headline cost, the Vanguard ETF has attracted more than double the net new money of its nearest rival this year. The State Street SPDR MSCI All-Country World UCITS ETF, which charges 0.12%, has failed to match that pace. Market observers attribute the gap to brand recognition and superior liquidity among European retail and institutional investors.

Tech Titans Drive Returns

The fund’s performance has been powered by its largest holdings, all of which are US technology giants. Nvidia leads the portfolio with a 4.5% weighting, followed by Apple at 4.0%, Alphabet at 3.6%, Microsoft at 2.7%, and Amazon at 2.2%. The top ten positions together account for roughly 24% of net assets, a concentration that leaves the fund exposed to swings in sentiment around artificial intelligence.

Over the past twelve months, the ETF has returned 25.40%, with a year-to-date gain of 13.79%. The share price stood at €165.40 on Tuesday, up 1.25% on the day and just 1.02% below the 52-week high of €167.10 reached in June.

Technical Picture Holds

The chart remains constructive for the near term. The ETF trades 1.25% above its 50-day moving average of €163.37 and 9.42% above the 200-day average of €151.17. The relative strength index sits at 53.9, leaving room for further upside without signaling overbought conditions. The 30-day volatility reading of 12.96% reflects the fund’s sensitivity to tech-driven market moves.

Vanguard FTSE All-World UCITS ETF USD Accumulation at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

The next catalyst arrives on July 28, when the new fee structure takes effect. Whether the price cut accelerates inflows further or finally allows BlackRock and DWS to close the gap will become clear only in the capital flows of the months ahead. What is already certain is that the battle for the cheapest global equity exposure in Europe has intensified — and Vanguard has just fired another round.
