2G Energy is asking investors to look past a first half in which margins all but vanished, and to trust that a back-loaded delivery schedule will carry the combined heat and power specialist to its full-year targets. The market has yet to be convinced.

A first half that barely cleared breakeven

Revenue for the six months came in at EUR 136.0 million, down from EUR 169.9 million a year earlier. Earnings before interest and taxes fell to EUR 0.8 million, leaving an operating margin of just 0.6%. Management attributed the slump to one-off IT expenses, higher depreciation and the cost of building up headcount ahead of planned growth.

The shortfall sets a steep hurdle. To land inside the guidance range of EUR 440 million to EUR 490 million in revenue and an operating margin of 9.5% to 10.5% for the 2026 financial year, order execution has to accelerate sharply in the second half. 2G Energy's business has always been weighted toward the final quarter, and the board has left its full-year targets untouched.

One operational spark came roughly three weeks ago, when the company booked a major order to supply power for a data center in North America — a deal that underlines the international reach of its systems.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying 2G Energy?

Skepticism on the sell side

Analysts are not yet buying the recovery story. Parmantier & Cie. reiterated its sell rating and a EUR 39.00 price target about three weeks ago, stressing that hitting the annual goals depends heavily on delivery momentum in the second half. The firm's caution rests on the size of the earnings gap that must be closed before year-end.

The stock's recent run reflects that unease. 2G Energy closed Friday at EUR 47.28, down 19% over seven days and 8.2% below its 200-day moving average. Even so, the shares remain up 35% since the start of the year.

The CFO puts money on the table

Friedrich Pehle, the finance chief, bought 100 shares at EUR 56.00 apiece through a joint account with Daniela Lohmann-Pehle, a transaction worth EUR 5,600.00 in total. The purchase, made on Tuesday, stands as a vote of confidence from the executive floor at a moment when the share price has been under pressure.

The company has also been working the strategic angle. On October 1 it hosted its first Capital Markets Day, drawing 55 participants, where management laid out its priorities around electrification, innovation and the service business. Investors, though, want hard evidence that the shift toward higher-margin orders is on track before they re-rate the equity.

November 23 is the next checkpoint

The coming weeks will decide the direction. On November 23, 2G Energy publishes revenue and operating profit figures for the third quarter. From November 23 to 25, it will also present at the Deutsches Eigenkapitalforum in Frankfurt am Main — a venue where it should become clear how far the catch-up effort has progressed. Between now and then, the company must show that integrating new technologies and expanding capacity can go hand in hand with strict cost discipline, and that the margin level it has promised is within reach.
