AGNC Analysts Split on Price Targets as Insider Sales and BlackRock Stake Draw Attention
Published on 10/28/2026 at 16:01 | Editorial boerse-global.deWall Street's coverage of AGNC Investment is pulling in two directions at once, with some brokerages lifting their price targets while others trim them — and not a single rating changed in the process.
The most recent move came from J.P. Morgan, where Richard Shane raised his target to $8.50 from $8 on Friday while keeping a "Neutral" stance, according to media reports. Bank of America Securities moved the same day in similar fashion: analyst Derek Hewett lifted his target to $9 from $8.50, also sticking with "Neutral."
RBC Capital went the other way. On October 21, Kenneth Lee cut his target to $10 from $12 but maintained an "Outperform" rating. A second firm trimmed its target to $10 from $11 that same day, holding a positive "Overweight" call. A third house also reduced its target on October 21, leaving it at $9, with its rating unchanged as well.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Agnc Investment?
Book Value Takes the Spotlight
The target revisions land roughly a week after AGNC reported third-quarter 2026 results that included a comprehensive loss of $1.28 per common share. Management pinned the damage on unfavorable fixed-income markets, noting that its mortgage holdings performed worse than the instruments used to hedge interest-rate exposure.
Tangible net book value per common share stood at $7.13 at the end of September, down 16.9% from June 30. Economic return on tangible common equity for the quarter came in at negative 12.7%. Offsetting some of that pressure, AGNC posted net spread and dollar-roll income of $0.37 per common share.
Insider Selling and a BlackRock Disclosure
Separately, filings show CEO Peter J. Federico sold 67,794 common shares on Monday under a Rule 10b5-1 trading plan, as disclosed in a Form 4 notice. That followed an identical sale of 67,794 shares on Friday, also executed under such a plan and reported in a separate transaction.
BlackRock, meanwhile, filed an amended Schedule 13G yesterday, putting its economically attributable stake in AGNC common stock at 9.4% as of September 30. The filing also includes details on voting rights exercisable on a sole basis.
