Alibaba Extends Hong Kong Rally Into New York as Mizuho Lifts Target to $200
Published on 11/08/2026 at 06:52 | Editorial boerse-global.deAlibaba's US-listed shares finished Friday up 2.0%, riding a broader rebound in American technology and AI stocks that the Associated Press linked to a recovery following a two-day selloff. The advance came one day after the Chinese e-commerce and cloud group had already joined a wider rally among Hong Kong tech names.
That Thursday session saw the Hang Seng Tech Index climb 5%, according to Reuters, as investors welcomed reduced uncertainty following the US midterm elections and a strong showing on Wall Street. The twin gains left Alibaba tracking sector momentum on both sides of the Pacific.
Analyst Support Builds
Research desks have been adding to the positive tone. Wei Fang of Mizuho Securities raised his price target to $200 from $195 on Tuesday while reiterating a buy rating. Citi's Alicia Yap had reaffirmed her own buy call and $193 target on November 2.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Alibaba?
Media coverage earlier in the week also flagged two company-specific threads: reports of planned central bank discussions in China aimed at improving credit support for share buybacks and stake increases — with Alibaba named among the beneficiaries, though no additional financing had been announced — and the planned integration of Alibaba's Qwen model into Apple's offering for the Chinese market. Roughly a week earlier, reports had pointed to a December launch of Apple Intelligence for consumers incorporating the Alibaba model.
Dakar 2026 Cloud Mandate
On the corporate front, Alibaba said on November 2 that it will supply cloud and AI technology for Dakar 2026, the first Youth Olympic Games to be held in Africa. The infrastructure is intended to support event operations and enable AI functions, with the private cloud to be handed over to Senegal after the Games for use as a national cloud platform.
Alibaba also secured a partial legal victory on October 26, when Reuters reported that a US federal court had issued a preliminary injunction against certain restrictions on Pentagon contracts. Under the ruling, the government may not exclude companies from contracts solely because they, their parent companies or subsidiaries maintain business relationships with lobbyists holding an Alibaba mandate. The decision did not remove Alibaba from the Pentagon list.
November 19 in Focus
The next confirmed financial date is November 19, when Alibaba will publish unaudited results for its September quarter before the US market opens, with a conference call scheduled for 7 a.m. US Eastern time.
