Allianz Keeps London Cover Dispute Alive While Sealing Two Distribution Deals Ahead of Q3 Print

Allianz shares climbed 2.4% on Wednesday, carried higher by a broader market rally rather than by anything the insurer said about itself. Lower oil prices, softer bond yields and a run of solid corporate results underpinned the equity backdrop, according to media reports. Strip that away and the company-specific picture is mixed: fresh distribution agreements sit alongside a legal fight that is still very much alive.

The most important thing to get right about that fight is what a court did — and did not — decide. On Tuesday, the Court of Appeal of England and Wales rejected an application from Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty SE, leaving Vivid Housing Limited free to keep pursuing its insurance claims over fire safety defects. The ruling does not establish that cover is owed. That question still has to be settled in the proceedings themselves. What the decision preserves is the route to pursuing the claim; it answers nothing about the substance of the policy dispute. For investors, the distinction matters: the dismissal of the application creates no fixed obligation to pay, and it does not end the case either.

Two Deals, Two Different Things

On the business side, Allianz Versicherungs-AG has taken over from 27 October as insurance partner and risk carrier for Mercedes-Benz Bank, with cover to be embedded directly into the vehicle purchase process. Customers can arrange car insurance through Mercedes sales partners at the point of buying a car, with protection extending to battery, wallbox and cyber risks. The scope of that announcement is narrow — it covers new contracts and says nothing about the book of business already on the books.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Allianz?

Separately, Allianz Partners and the TUI Group announced on 28 October a four-year extension of their strategic partnership, effective 1 November. The tie-up spans eleven European markets and centres on AI-supported travel insurance along with expanded travel protection and assistance offerings. One deal is a change of partner; the other continues an existing international distribution relationship rather than opening entirely new channels.

A Divided Scorecard

Analysts have not converged on a single verdict, and the dated recommendations show just how wide the gap is. Barclays trimmed its price target on 23 October to EUR 351 from EUR 353 while keeping an "Underweight" rating. Berenberg took the opposite stance, holding "Buy" on 26 October with a target of EUR 684. The two houses differ both on the recommendation and, far more sharply, on where they think the stock is worth.

November 12 Is the Real Test

The next confirmed date for the diary is 12 November, when Allianz publishes third-quarter 2026 results. The quarterly documents are due out at 7:00, with a press conference scheduled for 09:30.

Until then, the news flow speaks to separate parts of the story. The distribution agreements describe cooperation with business partners; the quarterly figures will show how earnings are actually developing. An extended partnership is an operational event, a buy recommendation a valuation judgement — and the report will supply the numbers against which both can be judged. Wednesday's share price gain, meanwhile, belongs to the market mood and should not be read as a verdict on the London litigation.
