Allianz Wealth Report Charts Record Global Assets as Buyback Wraps and New Hospital Cover Debuts

Allianz used the final days of September to push out a cluster of announcements spanning household wealth, climate economics, product launches and executive succession — a burst of activity that has left the Munich insurer's stock treading water even as analysts keep their bullish calls intact.
Global wealth hits a new peak
The centerpiece was the group's Global Wealth Report, published on September 29, which put worldwide financial assets at EUR 268.4 trillion in 2025, an advance of 8.6 percent. Roughly four out of every five euros of that increase came from rising valuations on financial markets rather than fresh saving, according to the company's calculations. For an insurer that sells both investment and protection products, the swelling asset base underpins demand over the longer run, even as Allianz's own economists paint a more nuanced picture of the global economy.
On September 30, Allianz Global Investors flagged resilient growth momentum in its fourth-quarter outlook while pointing to geopolitical friction and volatile energy prices as live risks. That followed a September 24 warning from Allianz Research, whose inaugural Climate Economics Report argued that a warming climate dents the economy through more than physical damage alone — it also drags on productivity, stokes inflation, curbs consumption and strains public finances. The group put the bill for Europe from extreme heat in 2026 at EUR 113 billion.
Buyback completed, capital returned
Behind the headline numbers, Allianz has been shrinking its share count. The company finished its buyback program roughly two weeks ago, repurchasing 6,247,961 of its own shares for EUR 2,499,999,633.67. Since the program closed, the stock has slipped 3.1 percent.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Allianz?
The equity ended Tuesday's session at EUR 418.00, a dip of 0.3 percent, leaving the group with a market capitalization of EUR 157.86 billion. Year to date, the shares are still up 6.7 percent.
Fresh products for hospitals and auto claims
On the operating side, Allianz Private Krankenversicherungs-AG rolled out a new inpatient supplementary policy, "MeinKrankenhausschutz," on October 1, offering three tiers of coverage. Existing policyholders can move into the new tariffs without a fresh health check provided they meet certain conditions — a portfolio extension aimed squarely at demand for individualized hospital protection.
The group also moved to clarify the fallout from a Federal Court of Justice ruling on repair-shop risk in comprehensive motor cover. In a September 29 briefing, Allianz Versicherungs-AG explained that policyholders may in principle be left carrying the cost of unnecessary or overpriced workshop work. Its advice: contact the insurer before authorizing repairs to head off disputes at the settlement stage.
Boardroom and unit-level changes stack up
Leadership appointments are being lined up across several businesses. Laurent Floquet takes the helm at Allianz Direct, while Philipp Kroetz becomes chief executive of Allianz Partners on November 1, 2026. Tomas Kunzmann is set to join the board of Allianz SE on January 1, 2027. At Swiss subsidiary Allianz Suisse, Monika Behr will step down from her role atop the life insurance division at the end of the year, with Dr. Verena Jäger — currently chief risk officer and managing director at Allianz Global Investors — named as her successor.
Berenberg stays positive ahead of Q3
Analysts remain constructive on the stock. Berenberg reaffirmed its "Buy" rating on September 29 with a price target of EUR 684.
Investors now have a pair of dates to circle. On October 21, the group will present a study from the Allianz Center for Technology on distraction risks tied to modern vehicle technology at the 14th Allianz Motor Day. Third-quarter results for 2026 follow on November 12, when the insurer reports from Munich — an update expected to show how new business and claims burdens have developed across its divisions.
