Almonty Industries is drawing fresh attention from the analyst community just as its stock attempts to steady itself following a bruising stretch of profit-taking. On Tuesday, DA Davidson reaffirmed its buy rating on the resource company's shares and left its price target untouched at 33 US dollars — a vote of confidence that lands days after the stock surrendered a chunk of its year-to-date gains.

The endorsement follows Jefferies' decision to initiate coverage on September 2 with a buy recommendation and a 26.25 US dollar target. Taken together, the two calls suggest that at least some on the sell side remain convinced by the company's expansion strategy, even as the market subjects its valuation to closer scrutiny.

A 25% Stake for Kigali

What sits behind that strategy is a far-reaching agreement: on the previous Monday, Almonty established a joint venture with the Rwandan government. Under the binding arrangement, Rwanda takes a 25 percent interest in the subsidiary Almonty Rwanda Pty Ltd. In exchange, the country contributes mining rights for the Shyorongi tungsten exploration project along with a mineral processing license. Almonty holds the remaining 75 percent, preserving operational control over the deposit's development.

According to Reuters, the deal forms part of a US-backed critical minerals initiative aimed at building resilient tungsten supply chains that can function independently of China's dominant production. For Western manufacturers, securing reliable access to the metal carries strategic weight, given its role in a range of essential industrial applications.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Almonty?

A Volatile Week on the Trading Floor

The equity itself has been anything but calm. In today's session the stock is adding 3.5 percent to trade at 12.14 euros, a partial recovery after earlier gains were given back. Over a seven-day window, however, the shares are still down 15 percent. That drawdown reflects a broader pattern: media reports point to valuation concerns triggering meaningful profit-taking, and the stock closed Tuesday's European session at 11.69 euros.

The pullback has done little to erase the year's earlier rally. Since the start of the year, Almonty shares remain up 47 percent — a run that management has argued fails to reflect the underlying value of the company's assets. Analysts, for their part, continue to emphasize the company's strategic positioning.

The 2027 Deadline Looming Over the Sector

The fundamental case rests on a hard regulatory clock. From January 2027, strict restrictions imposed by the US Department of Defense will govern the procurement of tungsten from non-Western sources. For Western processors, the window to establish alternative supply chains is closing. Almonty is positioning itself squarely in that rebuild, advancing projects including the Sangdong mine in South Korea, Panasqueira, and Browns Lake. The implication is clear: Western industrial groups are locking in long-term volumes to get ahead of the coming prohibitions.

Whether a single producer can convert that geopolitical tailwind into durable earnings fast enough to justify its lofty valuation multiples remains the open question. The recent correction offers a sobering interim verdict — investors are no longer waving through every valuation outlier without complaint.

Between political momentum and the realities of mining, a gap persists that shareholders must bridge with patience. Strategic partnerships and policy mandates create offtake opportunities, but they do not substitute for sustainable operating cash flow. For Almonty, the road ahead will be measured by how smoothly it manages the transition from deposit development to full-scale commercial production.
