AMD Hits $1 Trillion as Wall Street Weighs Delivery Timelines Against Dilution Risk

Advanced Micro Devices has crossed the $1 trillion market capitalization threshold, becoming the fourth U.S. chipmaker to reach that milestone after Nvidia, Broadcom and Micron. The shares changed hands at EUR 544.30 in German trading, sitting just 0.7% below their 52-week high of EUR 547.90 — a peak set on September 23, 2026. Year-to-date, the stock has added 194%.
The rally rests on more than sentiment. AMD's data center unit booked $6.7 billion in revenue during the second quarter of 2026, more than double the year-earlier figure, and now accounts for roughly 58% of group sales. Demand is broad: alongside its Instinct graphics accelerators, the company is seeing heavy interest in EPYC server processors as customers shift toward heterogeneous architectures that pair high-performance CPUs with accelerator cores inside large data centers.
Helios and the Gigawatt Pipeline
That shift has a concrete product behind it. AMD unveiled its rack-scale Helios platform over the summer — a turnkey system bundling 72 Instinct accelerators with 18 EPYC processors from the Venice generation. Management says the design lifts token throughput per dollar invested, and regular shipments are scheduled to begin toward the end of the third quarter.
The order book behind those shipments is substantial. Oracle and OpenAI rank among the major buyers, with OpenAI committed under a multi-year agreement to Instinct GPUs totaling six gigawatts of capacity, starting with a first phase in the current second half. Meta is pursuing deployments of a similar scale. Bernstein analyst Stacy Rasgon rates the stock Outperform with a $650 price target, citing CPU growth alongside the large-volume contracts.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying AMD?
What investors are really tracking now is conversion speed — how quickly contracted gigawatt deployments turn into revenue that shows up on the income statement. The hardware commitments are in place; proof of sustainably profitable margins at scale is not yet.
Warrants, Dilution and the $600 Threshold
Tucked inside those supply agreements are equity-linked instruments that could reshape the share count. OpenAI holds warrants on up to 160 million AMD shares, exercisable only when specified purchase volumes and price levels are met. The final tranches are tied to the $600 mark. Should all tranches across the Meta and OpenAI arrangements be exercised in full, existing shareholders would face dilution of as much as 10% each.
Investors are also pressing for evidence in coming quarters that the ambitious delivery schedule can be executed without eroding margins. Additional operating leverage could come from pricing: media reports indicate management plans price increases in selected high-performance chips during the fourth quarter.
Hyperscaler Balance Sheets and 2-Nanometer Timing
Two risks sit on the other side of the ledger. Skeptics point to the historically rich valuation and warn that a delay in rolling out the new 2-nanometer platforms, or a slowdown in demand for inference infrastructure, would trigger a re-rating. Rising interest rates and mounting debt loads at the big hyperscalers could likewise prompt them to stretch or trim planned infrastructure spending for 2027 — a move that would hit suppliers like AMD directly.
Inference workloads tied to new agent-based applications are meanwhile fueling fresh demand, and because such tasks require substantial CPU resources alongside graphics processors, AMD's established server business stands to benefit. As long as Helios shipments stay on schedule this half and hyperscaler demand holds, the momentum has room to run. A shift in the technology giants' investment climate, or supply-chain snags that cloud the margin outlook, would leave the elevated valuation exposed.
The next hard data point arrives on November 3, 2026, when management reports third-quarter figures. Data center revenue and progress on the large-scale projects will be the numbers that matter.
