AppLovin has handed restricted stock units to two of its top figures, but equity awards to executives say nothing about whether the business is slowing down. The grant to CEO Adam Foroughi and Xiaochuan Ge on Thursday, disclosed through summaries of mandatory filings, concerns compensation and ownership rather than operations. Investors looking for a read on the company will have to wait for the third-quarter 2026 report, scheduled for November 4 after the US market close.

A split verdict from the analyst community

The sell-side is sending two very different messages at once. Zacks rates the stock a Sell ahead of the print, pointing out that earnings estimates have been revised in only one direction lately — three downward revisions over the past 30 days, with no upward adjustments. Yet the consensus still projects earnings of $3.94 per share, a jump of 60.8% from a year earlier. Those are forecasts, not reported figures.

Revenue expectations sit at $2.08 billion, which would mark a 47.8% increase year over year. The tension is plain: growth is expected to be steep, but confidence in its magnitude has eroded.

Price-target cuts from the big houses tell a similar story. UBS trimmed its target to $414 from $790 on October 28, citing slower consumer growth and tougher competition in gaming, while keeping its Buy rating. RBC Capital lowered its target to $500 from $575 the same day and stuck with Outperform. A positive label, in other words, does not mean unchanged conviction — and the reasoning behind each cut deserves more weight than the rating itself.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Applovin?

Beating estimates has been the pattern

History offers some comfort. AppLovin topped the earnings consensus in each of the past four quarters, with an average positive surprise of 5.3%. That record speaks to the company's ability to clear profit expectations. Zacks, however, draws no clear signal of another beat from it, and the combination of falling estimates and a missing surprise indicator outweighs the recent streak in its assessment.

The revenue side has been shakier. In the second quarter of 2026, AppLovin reported $1.92 billion, short of the $1.94 billion consensus. The revenue and EBITDA guidance that followed also fell slightly shy of expectations. For the upcoming release, earnings per share alone will not settle the question — whether sales and the outlook get back on track matters just as much.

Cheap for a reason, unless the estimates hold

On valuation, the stock trades at a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 11.98 against 17.74 for the sector. That discount is not by itself proof of a bargain. Its meaning depends entirely on whether the underlying earnings forecasts hold up — and that is precisely where the uncertainty sits. AppLovin is supposed to grow briskly while analysts have been marking their numbers down.

Applovin at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Broader market forces have added noise. On Friday, disappointing quarterly results from Amazon and Intel, combined with worries about AI spending, weighed on the tech sector, and AppLovin was among the weaker names. No company-specific trigger was identified for that move. Sector-wide selling pressure explains part of the price action but not the competitive concerns UBS raised — conflating the two would be convenient rather than illuminating.

The executive share awards, the sector mood and the trimmed targets all fade next to one date. What matters on November 4 is whether the company's numbers and guidance can carry the expectations that analysts have spent the past month scaling back.
