Construction has officially begun at Arafura Rare Earths' flagship Nolans project in Australia's Northern Territory, north of Alice Springs, yet the company's share price continues to tell a far less enthusiastic story than its operational progress might suggest.
The deposit itself is a phosphate-hosted system with a long projected mine life, deliberately configured to target the magnet elements that matter most to modern industry — neodymium, praseodymium, dysprosium and terbium. Without these, hardly a single electric motor turns. Arafura's ambition goes well beyond simply digging ore out of the ground: the plan calls for fully integrated processing on site, taking raw material all the way through to high-purity oxide, positioning the company as a rare non-Chinese participant in a supply chain where Beijing's licensing rules increasingly reach across international borders.
Offtake Book Fills Up
Industry demand for that output is not in question. Binding purchase agreements already cover the bulk of Arafura's targeted volumes, with regular magnet feed shipments earmarked for an automotive platform. The company recently widened one of those arrangements with a global wind turbine manufacturer — a deal structured around recognized market indices, which shields the project from opaque pricing and hands it a dependable revenue base ahead of first production.
That contract extension arrived roughly three weeks after management advanced the completion of project financing, and about a fortnight before the release of the fiscal 2026 annual report and the formal start of construction. Taken together, these mark the milestones any developer must clear to make the leap from explorer to producer.

Financing Nears the Finish Line
The capital structure underpinning Nolans is a composite: a senior debt facility from commercial banks, a cost-overrun guarantee, institutional equity, and a concessional loan from Australia's export credit agency secured years ago. Final close on this package is the trigger that releases the loan drawdowns, and investors are watching for it alongside the mobilization of construction contractors.
Execution risk, however, remains the elephant in the room. Building a rare earth processing plant is capital-intensive, technically demanding and prone to delays. The metallurgical flow sheet is highly complex and has yet to prove itself in sustained industrial operation, while the remote Northern Territory location places extreme demands on both workforce and materials logistics.
A Stock That Isn't Buying the Story Yet
The equity market has been slow to reward the operational wins. Arafura shares changed hands at EUR 0.1189 on the day of writing, a modest 1.1% daily decline, and sit roughly 62% below their 52-week high of EUR 0.3100. At a price of EUR 0.1179, the gap to that peak is equally stark. Personnel and structural matters have added their own layer of unease.

The extended wind turbine agreement is undeniably a strong vote of confidence from industry in what Nolans can deliver, and Arafura looks to have the right partners on board to carve out a meaningful long-term role in magnet metals outside China.
Until the company demonstrates that its construction schedule and budget are being adhered to strictly, however, sharp share price moves are unlikely. The re-rating potential exists — but the burden of proof now rests squarely on operational delivery.
