ASML's Order Book Is Locked Through 2027 — Now the Question Is How Fast It Can Build

ASML's EUV lithography systems are nearly fully sold through 2027, with High-NA orders from TSMC and Samsung backing a 60% year-to-date share gain.

A 16% gap between ASML Holding's share price and its 52-week high tells you almost nothing about the Dutch equipment maker's actual business. The order book tells you everything.

Pre-market quotes put the stock at EUR 1,469.80, while Friday's close came in at EUR 1,456.80 after a 2.3% advance. Those numbers reflect a market still debating whether the semiconductor cycle is cooling. They do not reflect a company whose extreme ultraviolet lithography systems are effectively spoken for through 2027.

That is the core tension in the ASML story right now: a share price that has already climbed 60% year-to-date, and a demand pipeline that keeps stretching further into the future.

Sold out, and then some

Reuters reported that ASML's existing EUV lithography systems are nearly fully sold through 2027. At roughly EUR 200 million per unit, that represents an extraordinary vote of confidence from chipmakers who cannot manufacture leading-edge logic for data centers and artificial intelligence without these machines.

The next generation is already committed. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company and Samsung Electronics have both signed on for High-NA EUV systems, which carry an estimated price tag of USD 400 million apiece. That customers willingly commit such sums underscores a simple reality: there is no alternative. Anyone who wants to stay in the race for the most advanced computing chips has to accept ASML's terms.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying ASML Holding?

Pushing past its own targets

Management is not standing still. Following a September 14 meeting with ASML CFO Roger Dassen, JPMorgan analysts reported that the company is exploring ways to build more than 110 EUV systems in 2028. That would exceed ASML's own earlier guidance of at least 80 systems in 2027, followed by a 30% volume increase in 2028. The fact that demand may now warrant even higher output speaks to the unabated momentum in AI applications.

To handle those volumes, ASML is pouring money into infrastructure. Construction began September 8 on a second major industrial campus at the Brainport Industries Campus North in Eindhoven. The site will span roughly 350,000 square meters and accommodate up to 20,000 jobs. Power supply for the area is secured, with completion of the first expansion phase targeted for 2029.

Binding customers to the roadmap

ASML is also tying its largest buyers deeply into its future technology plans. Together with TSMC, the company launched an industry initiative to transition High-NA lithography to 12-inch photomasks, with partners aiming for a pilot line by 2031 and full volume production by 2033. Expanded cooperation with Intel Foundry and Samsung Electronics rounds out the network.

Beyond that, ASML is adapting its most advanced lithography systems to new market requirements, working closely with leading manufacturers to optimize the machines for larger data-center chips of the kind Nvidia designs. The goal is to ensure that cutting-edge AI processors can continue to be produced with maximum precision.

A premium that rests on something real

None of this makes ASML a hidden gem anymore. Buyers today pay a premium for technological exclusivity, and geopolitical export restrictions or delays in the complex assembly process can always trigger painful interim corrections.

Still, the balance tilts clearly toward opportunity. ASML holds an industrial monopoly on indispensable key tools of the digital age. As long as the world's appetite for computing power holds, this company remains the most stable foundation in the entire semiconductor sector.
