Aurubis Regulatory Filings Show Goldman Sachs Exposure Is Almost Entirely Synthetic
Published on 11/03/2026 at 17:01 | Editorial boerse-global.deGoldman Sachs has lifted its aggregate position in Aurubis to 10.99%, up from 10.28% previously, according to a mandatory disclosure filed yesterday. The headline figure flatters the bank's real ownership: voting rights attached to actual shares account for just 0.20%, while the remaining 10.79% is held through financial instruments. The threshold was crossed on 26 October.
That distinction matters for anyone reading the filing as a sign of conviction buying. The aggregated position is not equivalent to a correspondingly large direct stake in the copper producer.
BNP Paribas published its own Aurubis voting-rights notice on Friday, reporting a total position of 5.33%. Attributable voting rights made up 2.93%, with instruments accounting for 2.40%. Both disclosures share the same 26 October threshold date.
Salzgitter Upgrade Lifts the Mood
Away from the filings, the mood around Aurubis found support from an adjacent corner of the German metals sector. Salzgitter raised its earnings guidance for 2026 on Thursday — its second upward revision — after a strong third quarter. JPMorgan put Aurubis's earnings contribution to Salzgitter in that quarter at €59 million. The upgraded outlook applies to Salzgitter itself.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Aurubis?
Analyst action at Aurubis has run the other way. Roughly two weeks ago, ahead of quarterly figures, Deutsche Bank Research cut its price target on the stock to €169 from €177 while keeping a "Hold" rating. That move came before the latest round of voting-rights disclosures.
The shares nonetheless firmed at the start of the week, gaining 2.4% yesterday to close at €137.00.
Copper Recovers, but No Causal Link Drawn
Reuters reported yesterday that the London copper price had recovered from the previous week's losses, citing supply concerns and lower oil prices as the drivers. Those factors describe the copper market itself; the report did not explicitly establish a causal link to the day's advance in Aurubis stock.
Aurubis at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
Investors looking for the next hard data point will have to wait. Aurubis has scheduled publication of its annual financial report — its Geschäftsbericht — for 02.12.2026, a date that falls well after both the October stake changes and this week's price recovery.
