Barclays Lifts Bloom Energy to Overweight Even as It Cuts Its Target
Published on 11/08/2026 at 18:21 | Editorial boerse-global.deBloom Energy shares climbed 5.0% on Friday to close at €156.80, clawing back part of the ground lost in Thursday's sharp decline. The advance came as part of a broader rebound across fuel-cell and AI-infrastructure names, and media reports indicated no company-specific announcement drove the move. Instead, investors turned their attention back to the company's recent data-center contracts, including its agreement with NTT DATA.
Election Results Weigh on the Sector
The wider recovery followed losses tied to the US midterm elections. According to the AP, the results reinforced expectations of stricter restrictions on data centers, which weighed on companies across the AI-infrastructure and power-supply chain. Bloom Energy, as a supplier to that ecosystem, was caught up in the pullback. Friday's bounce recouped only a portion of those losses.
Barclays Upgrades, but Trims Its Target
Barclays had already shifted its stance earlier in the week, upgrading Bloom Energy from Equal Weight to Overweight on Tuesday. The bank simultaneously lowered its price target to $289 from $316. In support of the upgrade, Barclays pointed to strengthening demand, an accelerating buildout of capacity, rising customer down payments, and new delivery commitments. The result was a more constructive rating paired with a lower target — a combination that puts the emphasis on expected business momentum rather than on near-term valuation.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Bloom Energy?
NTT DATA Deal Anchors the Growth Case
The contract drawing the most attention is the agreement under which NTT DATA will deploy Bloom Energy fuel cells for on-site power at data-center projects worldwide. The arrangement covers 900 MW, with first deliveries scheduled to begin in 2027. According to the partners, the collaboration is designed to scale into the gigawatt range. For Bloom, it marks its largest international project to date.
A second initiative carries a different status. On November 2, Carbon TerraVault — a subsidiary of California Resources Corporation — announced a non-binding letter of intent with Bloom Energy. The two sides will examine the potential development of at least 1 GW of solid-oxide fuel-cell generation in California, paired with carbon capture and storage. That project remains subject to final agreements, a final investment decision, and the necessary permits and regulatory approvals.
A Quarter That Set the Bar
The contract news lands roughly two weeks after Bloom Energy reported third-quarter 2026 results and raised its full-year 2026 guidance. Between the Barclays upgrade, the NTT DATA order, and the earlier guidance hike, the stock's Friday move reflects a market weighing a crowded pipeline of announcements against the lengthy path each project must still travel before it ships.
