Bayer Backs Monsanto in Missouri as China Clears Cancer Drug and Guidance Rises
Published on 11/07/2026 at 17:51 | Editorial boerse-global.deBayer's week has been bookended by courtroom relief and regulatory wins, with a fresh full-year profit target sitting between them. The German drugs-to-seeds group now expects currency-adjusted EBITDA before special items of EUR 9.8 billion to EUR 10.3 billion for the whole of 2026, an upgrade it announced on Tuesday.
The raised guidance came alongside third-quarter figures that showed group revenue of EUR 10.053 billion, up 4.1% in nominal terms. Adjusted for currency and portfolio effects, sales advanced 1.9%. EBITDA before special items climbed 6.9% to EUR 1.615 billion.
Adjusted earnings per share moved the other way, slipping to EUR 0.31, and Bayer booked a net loss of EUR 672 million for the quarter. Free cash flow guidance was also lifted on a currency-adjusted basis, though the projected range of minus EUR 1.5 billion to minus EUR 0.5 billion keeps the metric firmly in negative territory.
A Chinese First for Sevabertinib
On the pharmaceutical side, China's NMPA approved Sevabertinib on Wednesday as a first-line treatment for adults with HER2-mutated non-small cell lung cancer. The green light covers unresectable, locally advanced or metastatic disease, meaning patients can receive the drug at the outset of treatment rather than after earlier therapies fail.

The approval follows a separate Chinese clearance for Asundexian, announced on 26 October. Marketed there as Sunharbo, the drug is designed to cut stroke risk after a non-cardioembolic ischemic stroke or a high-risk TIA. According to Bayer, it is the first factor XIa inhibitor approved in China.
Bayer also reported data for Darolutamid in prostate cancer patients at high risk of recurrence. Combined with ADT and radiotherapy, the regimen reduced the risk of metastasis or death by 58%, a figure tied specifically to the combination studied.
Twelve Jurors, One Verdict
In the glyphosate litigation, subsidiary Monsanto won the Aretino case unanimously before a Missouri court on 30 October. All twelve jurors sided with the company. The claims involved alleged product defects, intentional misrepresentation and negligence, and Bayer noted it was the first glyphosate case since the US Supreme Court's ruling.

Chief executive Bill Anderson used Tuesday's numbers to restate the group's priorities. A breakup is not currently on the agenda, he said, with Bayer instead focused on innovation and reducing its debt load.
Shares eased 0.7% on Friday to close at EUR 55.08.
