Bayer's Lab Wins Are Piling Up, but the Scoreboard That Counts Comes on November 3
Published on 10/28/2026 at 03:01 | Editorial boerse-global.deTwo banks spent the start of the week reading the same batch of Bayer headlines and reached strikingly similar conclusions — without either one lifting a finger on valuation. Bank of America reaffirmed its buy recommendation on Monday, calling the interim Nubeqa trial results exceptionally strong, while JPMorgan kept its "Overweight" rating and a price target of 61 euros intact after analyst Richard Vosser gave the same DASL-HiCaP data a positive read. Neither house moved its numbers. That silence is the story.
The German group's shares added 0.5% on Monday, extending a run tied to the pharma newsflow. Coverage attributed the advance to the fresh Nubeqa data and, just as importantly, to a regulatory green light out of Beijing.
A 58% Cut in Risk — With a Caveat Attached
Bayer disclosed on Saturday an interim analysis of the Phase III DASL-HiCaP study. Darolutamide, marketed as Nubeqa, combined with androgen deprivation therapy and radiotherapy reduced the risk of metastases or death by 58% versus placebo in prostate cancer patients at high risk of recurrence. The four-year metastasis-free survival rate came in at 95% against 88%.
Those figures apply to the specific patient population and treatment combination studied — a boundary that matters when translating a relative risk reduction into a commercial forecast. The data are also an interim readout, not a final one.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Bayer?
China Clears the World's First Factor XIa Inhibitor
Separately, China's NMPA approved Asundexian on Monday under the brand name Sunharbo for lowering stroke risk following a non-cardioembolic ischemic stroke or a high-risk TIA. The nod came through an accelerated pathway. According to Bayer, it marks the first approved factor XIa inhibitor anywhere in the world, and the first agent of its class available in China for the approved indication.
A regulatory decision, though, is not a revenue line. What Asundexian eventually contributes to the top and bottom line remains an open question for anyone building a valuation case.
Finerenone Adds a Third Leg
Finerenone featured in a scientific presentation on Friday. Subanalyses of the Phase III FIND-CKD trial, showcased at ASN Kidney Week, examined the drug's effects in patients with chronic kidney disease without diabetes. Bayer reported consistent effects on proteinuria and on decline in kidney function versus placebo across the patient groups studied. The ASN had scheduled the session for that day.
Taken together, the three developments — a mid-stage win in prostate cancer, a first-in-class approval in China and supportive kidney data — could bolster confidence in the pipeline's breadth. Whether they do so durably depends on something the studies cannot supply.
Where the Bull Case Still Has a Gap
A relative risk reduction is not a sales forecast, and an approval says nothing on its own about future earnings. Conflating the two would mix medical endpoints with financial metrics. The bull scenario becomes genuinely convincing only when a solid operating trajectory backs up the clinical headlines — when confidence rests on research momentum and commercial substance rather than on individual trials alone.
Bayer at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
The analyst reaction offers a useful yardstick here. JPMorgan's positive stance came with no change to rating or target, which is neither a downgrade nor an upgrade. Bank of America's reaffirmed buy carries the same implication: constructive, but not a fresh re-rating.
November 3 Is the Real Test
Bayer publishes its third-quarter 2026 interim report on November 3 at 07:30 CET, with an investor video call scheduled for 14:00 CET. That release can sharpen the economic side of the investment case. It will not, however, serve as immediate proof of success for the approval or the study data just announced. The decisive question is whether operating performance and the longer-term drug outlook add up to a coherent picture — or whether the good news from the lab has to carry the stock on its own.
