Benz Mining's CHESS Depositary Interests began trading as part of the S&P/ASX 300 on Monday, capping a quarter that has seen the Canadian-Australian gold explorer sharply accelerate work at its flagship Glenburgh project. The index inclusion, flagged by S&P Dow Jones Indices earlier in the month, took effect before the opening bell and gave the stock fresh momentum in European dealing, where it climbed 8.2% to EUR 3.05.

The advance leaves the shares within a whisker of their 52-week peak of EUR 3.07, with today's gain of as much as 8.5% to EUR 3.06 at one stage during the session. Membership of the broad Australian benchmark typically lifts a company's profile among institutional investors and forces passive index funds tracking the S&P/ASX 300 to adjust their portfolios. A broader recovery across the Asia-Pacific mining sector, helped by a softer US dollar and retreating oil prices that have lent support to gold prices, has added to the tailwind.

Placement Funds a 450,000-Metre Campaign

The operational build-out behind the stock's rise is substantial. Benz Mining has expanded its rig fleet at Glenburgh to 14 active drill rigs, running across more than 20 shifts, as it pushes toward a maiden mineral resource estimate for the project targeted for the first half of 2027.

Funding for the programme was secured roughly three weeks ago through an institutional placement that raised gross proceeds of AUD 150 million. The company issued about 40.43 million CHESS Depositary Interests at AUD 3.71 apiece. The proceeds are earmarked for a 450,000-metre drilling programme, along with geological modelling, laboratory analysis and metallurgical test work. Technical studies, ongoing permitting procedures and general working capital needs round out the budget.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Benz Mining?

Exploration results have underpinned confidence in the geology. On 3 August, Benz Mining reported high-grade gold intercepts from the Icon deposit, including a 41-metre section grading 14.5 grams of gold per tonne starting at a depth of 260 metres. The geology team identified northeast-plunging hinge zones as the key driver behind a repeatable expansion of the gold ounces.

Quarterly Loss Widens on Exploration Surge

The intensified campaign is visible in the company's latest financials. Exploration and evaluation spending jumped to CAD 26,966,172 in the first fiscal quarter ended 31 July 2026, up from CAD 3,312,136 a year earlier. The net loss for the period widened to CAD 28,108,896, compared with a shortfall of CAD 3,672,729 in the prior-year quarter. The board approved and filed the financial and management reports on 14 September.

Cash and liquid funds stood at CAD 53,047,202 at the end of the reporting period on 31 July, a figure that does not yet reflect the subsequent placement. That leaves the explorer with a financial cushion for the current drilling push. Benz Mining now carries a market capitalisation of EUR 1.06 billion.

With financing in place and index membership secured, attention turns to the steady flow of drill core assays, and ultimately to the maiden resource estimate that management has set as the central milestone of the current campaign.
