BMW has confirmed that its voluntary severance programme in Germany closed ahead of schedule, with the company telling Handelsblatt on 20 October that the intended take-up target had been met and no further applications would be accepted. The group declined to disclose how many employees signed up. The same day brought a more visible piece of news: a joint high-power charging demonstration with IONNA and Alpitronic, in which the new BMW iX5 60 xDrive hit a DC charging rate of up to 460 kW. The test also documented the additional range gained through high-power charging.

Jefferies Sticks to Its Ground

Jefferies kept BMW at "Hold" on 20 October and reiterated a 60 euro price target. Analyst Philippe Houchois revised his estimates following the company's preliminary third-quarter statements, though the rating itself stayed put.

The preliminary figures sketch a group pulling in different directions. Deliveries in Europe rose roughly 4.5% and in the US by 3.4%, yet worldwide volumes across the BMW Group fell 6.3% year on year to 551,072 vehicles in the third quarter of 2026. Cumulative deliveries through September topped 1.7 million units. The BMW brand's China sales dropped 21.2% over the first nine months of 2026.

Battery-electric output told a brighter story. The group handed over 110,257 purely electric vehicles worldwide in the quarter, up 7.2% on the prior-year period. In Europe, fully electric cars already accounted for one in every three BMWs delivered during the three-month stretch, according to company figures released on 13 October.

Regensburg: Anniversary and Interruption

Production at the Regensburg plant has been scaled back after short-notice shortages of supplier components. BMW confirmed isolated shift cancellations and said it was working to restore supply as quickly as possible.

The disruption sits awkwardly beside the site's milestone. Regensburg recently marked 40 years of series production, and BMW used the occasion on 19 October to put a figure on its recent spending: around 400 million euros invested in the plant's New Class production structures since 2023. Total investment at the site since operations began exceeds six billion euros.

Product Accolades and a Date for the Diary

Two days earlier, on 15 October, BMW announced that the iX3, the 4 Series and the 5 Series had each taken a title in the "Wertmeister 2026" awards, decided by Auto Bild and Schwacke.
