BMW Group's battery-electric vehicle sales climbed 7.2% year on year in the third quarter of 2026, reaching 110,257 units — a bright spot in a delivery report that otherwise pointed lower. The Munich-based manufacturer confirmed the figures on 13 October, and the contrast with the wider business was stark: total group deliveries across all drivetrains fell 6.3% to 551,072 vehicles over the same three months.

The pattern held across the full nine-month stretch. BMW Group handed over 1,707,799 vehicles worldwide through September, a decline of 4.9% against the prior-year period.

A Tale of Two Regions

Europe and the United States provided the counterweight. Third-quarter deliveries in Europe rose 2.7% to 235,628 vehicles. Over the nine months to September, the continent posted a 4.5% gain and the US 3.4%, both ahead of their year-earlier totals.

China moved the other way, and sharply. Group deliveries there dropped 24.8% in the third quarter to 114,355 vehicles. For the BMW brand specifically, the nine-month decline in China came to 21.2% — a figure that covers the brand rather than the group, and the year-to-date window rather than the quarter.

Jefferies Sticks to Its Ground

Jefferies left BMW at "Hold" on 20 October, with analyst Philippe Houchois reaffirming a 60-euro price target. Houchois revised his estimates in the wake of the company's preliminary third-quarter disclosures, though the rating itself stayed put.

Regensburg Shifts Cut on Parts Shortage

Away from the sales ledger, production at the Regensburg plant was throttled over the weekend after short-notice shortages of supplier components came to light. BMW confirmed isolated shift cancellations and said it was working to restore supply as quickly as possible.

On the staffing side, the company told Handelsblatt on 20 October that it had closed its voluntary severance programme in Germany ahead of schedule. The targeted take-up had been reached and no further applications were accepted; BMW did not disclose how many employees had signed up.

460 kW Demonstrated on the iX5

There was a technical milestone to report as well. BMW Group, IONNA and Alpitronic jointly demonstrated DC charging at up to 460 kW on the new BMW iX5 60 xDrive on 20 October. The exercise also showed additional range being added through high-power charging.

Investors get the full picture on 4 November 2026, when BMW is scheduled to publish its quarterly statement for the period ending 30 September 2026.
