Britain Will Pay Full Wages for Six Months to Get Disabled Young People Into Work

From April 2027, young Britons with disabilities or long-term health conditions will be able to claim a guaranteed job offer — and the employers who take them on will have their wage bill covered in full.
Under a Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) plan set out on the government portal gov.uk on 27 September 2026, eligible people would receive the guaranteed employment offer from the 13th week after their work capability assessment. Taking part is voluntary.
The subsidy runs for six months and covers 100 percent of wage costs for up to 25 hours a week. Employers who provide the placements also receive a payment of £3,000.
£3.5 Billion Reform Package
The measure sits inside a wider government reform programme worth £3.5 billion. Of that, £2.5 billion is channelled directly into the broader youth guarantee over a three-year period.
Ministers have set a target of getting up to 90,000 young people into work through the initiative before the end of the current parliamentary term. The thinking behind combining full wage reimbursement with direct grants is to lower the barrier for businesses and give new entrants a dependable route into employment.
A Disability Rate That Has More Than Doubled
The decision to focus labour market support on young people with health conditions rests on stark employment data.
According to the Alan Milburn Interim Report of 2026, 45 percent of so-called NEET young people in the United Kingdom — those not in employment, education or training — now have a disability. In 2013/14, that figure stood at 21.1 percent.
By opening the job guarantee in April 2027, the government is responding to that widening gap, aiming to head off long-term inactivity among those starting out in the workforce with targeted commitments of support.
