BYD Gears Up for Q3 Print as Kadena Lockout and Malaysia Assembly Plan Diverge
Published on 10/28/2026 at 08:31 | Editorial boerse-global.deBYD's next hard number arrives on 29 October 2026, when the board meets and third-quarter results for 2026 are scheduled for release after the market close. Everything else on the docket between now and then — a fresh city car, a premium SUV taking reservations, a Malaysian assembly tie-up and a US military base exclusion — sits somewhere between announcement and execution.
The stock's most recent nudge came from CLSA, which on Friday cut its target on the Hong Kong-listed shares to HK$104 from HK$120 while leaving its rating untouched. The broker gave no reason linking the trim to the Kadena story, and the two should be read as separate threads ahead of the earnings release.
A base-level ban, not a sales block
Reports on Friday said the US Air Force has barred BYD-built vehicles from Kadena Air Base on Okinawa, with the measure due to take effect yesterday. Cameras and sensors on the cars were cited as the security concern. The rule covers private vehicles as well as taxis and delivery vans, and it was not announced by BYD itself.
Scope matters here. The restriction is tied to a single military installation, which distinguishes it from any broad obstacle to selling cars. The stated rationale centres on the vehicles' technical sensing systems rather than price or charging capability, adding a security-policy dimension to a story otherwise dominated by product and production news.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying BYD?
Seagull lands, Denza queues up
On the product side, BYD launched the second-generation Seagull in China on 20 October across five trim levels priced from 65,900 to 99,900 yuan. The car carries the second generation of the Blade Battery, optional LiDAR and, in the richer configurations, Flash Charging fast-charge technology.
The Denza brand is a step behind. Reservations for the fully electric N8 opened on Monday, with a market launch and customer deliveries flagged for November. Buyers can choose rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. The distinction is worth keeping straight: the Seagull is already on sale, while the N8 has only reached the order-book stage — and reservations are not deliveries. Nor does a launch by itself say anything yet about revenue or profit.
Inokom picked for Kulim CKD
Outside China, BYD on 15 October named Inokom, a Sime Motors subsidiary, as its partner for planned contract assembly in Malaysia. The two signed a letter of intent covering CKD operations at the Kulim plant in Kedah. That agreement marks a production step still to be executed, not a line already running — a different stage of maturity from the Seagull's completed rollout.
BYD at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
Management used the investor conversation to frame priorities around day-to-day operations, acknowledging that driver assistance and other newer business areas are still developing, with both opportunities and challenges attached. For shareholders, the test is delivery: launches, handovers and the conversion of signed intentions into output. Against that yardstick, the 29 October report will be the first place where the product push can be measured in numbers, while the security questions around Kadena remain a separate matter entirely.
