BYD has pushed back against allegations that its vehicles could pose a security risk to European users, insisting that vehicle data is not made accessible to its own Chinese entities or to third parties in China. The statement from BYD Europe followed a Reuters report on Wednesday that 14 members of the European Parliament had urged the European Commission to examine potential security risks linked to BYD cars.

The lawmakers went further, calling on Brussels to weigh restrictions on the automaker — including a possible exclusion from public procurement. Their demands therefore cover not only a security review but also the company's access to public contracts.

Third-Quarter Earnings Fall Short of Broker Estimates

The figures, released on October 29, showed revenue of RMB 221.488 billion for the third quarter of 2026, up 13.59% from the same period a year earlier. Net profit attributable to shareholders reached RMB 10.020 billion, a gain of 28.08% year on year.

That bottom-line advance nonetheless undershot expectations. Estimates compiled by Reuters from brokerage houses had ranged between RMB 11.4 billion and RMB 12.95 billion.

The picture darkens over the longer horizon. Revenue for the first nine months of 2026 came in at RMB 566.304 billion, a rise of just 0.01% compared with the prior year. Nine-month net profit, by contrast, fell 4.24% to RMB 22.345 billion.

Domestic Pressure, Foreign Tailwind

At home, BYD felt the squeeze: Reuters reported that domestic sales declined by roughly 12% during the quarter amid intensifying competition. October deliveries of alternative-drive vehicles totaled 490,168 units, an increase of 11% year on year, while overseas shipments reached 170,194 — a jump of 102.8%. The export business thus offset sluggish demand and price competition in the home market, setting sharply rising foreign volumes against calls in Europe for restrictions.

AI Partnership and a Denial on Driver Assistance

BYD and vivo signed a strategic cooperation agreement yesterday on AI-driven mobility, according to media reports. The deal covers cross-device integration and the networking of smartphones and vehicles, focusing on how the two device ecosystems interact and on the use of artificial intelligence in mobility.

BYD at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

On the driver-assistance front, BYD on Wednesday rejected rumors of a strategic shift. The company denied both that God's Eye C would be discontinued and claims that systems B and C were to be switched to a different assistance solution. Development of these systems stays in-house, BYD said, and software updates will continue.

BYD also warned yesterday about fraudulent recall notices circulating under its name, in which senders made false claims about warranties expiring. Official recall communications are issued through authorized dealers, according to the company.
