BYD put two very different export stories on display today, unveiling an autonomous electric bus in Singapore and a new long-distance coach in Birmingham. Neither unveiling changes the fact that the company's share price still hinges on something far less photogenic: whether record volumes can be converted into earnings that satisfy analysts.

The stock gained 2.3% yesterday, helped by momentum from the October sales report. But the more telling signal came from Fang Cheng Bao, BYD's premium brand, which reported cumulative sales of 600,000 vehicles on Sunday. According to media reports, BYD plans to raise output of the Formula S in November and speed up deliveries. That is a production and logistics plan, not evidence of additional sales — and the cumulative figure says nothing about how much the brand contributed to October's monthly business. Fang Cheng Bao disclosed neither October volumes nor model-level numbers.

Volume Strength, Price Pressure

In October, BYD sold 490,168 new-energy vehicles, up 11.0% year on year and its highest monthly total of 2026. Reuters identified overseas demand as the growth driver. Exports reached 170,194 units, a jump of 102.84% from a year earlier, giving the sales figures a solid foreign backbone.

The home front looks less comfortable. Weak demand in China and fierce price competition remain drags, which means higher sales alone do not settle the question of profitability.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying BYD?

The Earnings Bar

Results published on 29 October laid out the tension. Net profit for the third quarter of 2026 rose 28% to 10 billion yuan — yet still fell short of forecasts, which Reuters-compiled analyst estimates had placed between 11.4 and 12.95 billion yuan. Investors are therefore watching whether extra deliveries can eventually meet profit expectations. The planned ramp-up at Fang Cheng Bao offers a concrete operational lever; price competition remains the central constraint on how the market values the sales growth.

Two Routes Into Overseas Bus Markets

The bus launches show how BYD is pursuing expansion abroad, though each follows a different logic — and neither constitutes a confirmed order.

At Singapore Urban Mobility Week, BYD and MOGOX showed the B90 prototype, the first public appearance of the model worldwide. The right-hand-drive electric bus is 8.5 metres long and designed for Level 4 autonomous driving. The division of labour is clear: BYD supplies the vehicle platform and manufacturing, while MOGOX provides the MOGO AutoPilot driving system. Cameras and solid-state LiDAR are part of the hardware, and the system is tailored to left-hand traffic and right-hand-drive markets such as Singapore.

MOGOX won the contract for Singapore's first official autonomous bus project at this level and passed the Land Transport Authority's M1 test. That contract belongs to MOGOX and should not be equated with a confirmed order for the jointly presented B90. The technology partner brings practical experience to the table: its MOGOBUS vehicles already operate in more than 20 Chinese cities, alongside partnerships with ComfortDelGro Bus in Singapore and partners in Luxembourg and South Korea. For BYD, the value of the collaboration lies in pairing its electric bus platform with the partner's autonomous driving technology. Today's presentation documents that development step — not yet broad commercial deployment.

BYD at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

A Coach for British Operators

In Birmingham, at the Euro Bus Expo, BYD simultaneously presented the C12 DUO electric coach. The model seats up to 57 passengers and is targeting a range of up to 340 miles. It comes with an LFP Blade battery and DC fast-charging capability. The coach complements BYD's show presence, which also included a double-decker and further single-decker buses. According to BYD, more than 3,000 electric buses are already in service or slated for introduction in the UK, and the company grants a standard 15-year warranty on commercial vehicle batteries.

The two debuts widen BYD's international bus offering along separate tracks: joint development of autonomous driving technology in Singapore, and an expanded vehicle line-up for operators in Britain. For any economic assessment, firm orders and actual deployment will matter more than trade-fair premieres — just as, on the car side, the November production push at Fang Cheng Bao will be judged by what it does to the bottom line.
