BYD is mapping out a far larger European footprint, with management targeting more than 40,000 employees across the region by 2030. The hiring blueprint goes well beyond showrooms and distribution, extending into local manufacturing capacity — and Stella Li has confirmed that France is under close review as a possible site for another European plant.

That continental build-out runs alongside a steady stream of product and technology launches. In China, the electric flagship sedan Da Han hit the market on Tuesday in three trim levels priced between 235,900 and 275,900 CNY, with a CLTC-rated range of up to 1,008 kilometers. Days earlier, BYD had unveiled the seven-seat ATTO 8 flagship SUV, the vehicle it intends to use to bring its charging technology to European buyers in early 2027.

Southeast Asia is moving in step. On Wednesday the automaker rolled out its second-generation Blade battery and a new fast-charging system in Indonesia, pairing the reveal with the local debut of the Denza D9 and Z9GT. Fast-charging stations will first go up at ten Denza dealer locations, and Sime Darby subsidiary Inokom has been picked to handle vehicle assembly in Malaysia.

A Tang Refresh Waiting in the Wings

Back at home, BYD is readying the third generation of its Tang EV. Media reports point to a launch in China in the fourth quarter of 2026, with the reworked electric SUV promised a CLTC range of up to 850 kilometers and a fast-charging setup that can lift the battery from 10 to 70 percent in roughly five minutes — figures that have yet to be independently verified.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying BYD?

Such technological refreshes matter for China's market leader as it fights an intense price and model war. September 2026 deliveries of new-energy vehicles reached 463,561 units, 180,700 of which went to export markets. The broader trend, though, shows the operational engine losing pace: sales over the first nine months of 2026 totaled 3,131,576 units, down 3.94 percent from the same period a year earlier.

UOB Kay Hian responded to those numbers on October 9 by trimming its volume forecasts for 2026 through 2028, citing first-nine-month deliveries that fell short of original market expectations.

Margins in the Spotlight

Export conditions have shifted as well. Roughly a week ago, the European Union and China agreed to limit shipments of Chinese hybrid vehicles into the bloc, adding a fresh layer of uncertainty to BYD's overseas ambitions.

Investors have kept their distance. The stock barely budged in today's session, sitting at 8.35 euros, essentially flat, and it has shed 22 percent since the start of the year. Attention now turns to profitability in the quarter just ended: management has called a board meeting for October 29, 2026 to review and release unaudited third-quarter results. Beyond the raw delivery figures, the margin line will show just how hard the discount battles at home have pressed on group earnings.
