BYD's Export Engine Doubles in October, Offsetting a Soft Home Market as Piper Sandler Trims Its Target
Published on 11/08/2026 at 07:41 | Editorial boerse-global.deBYD shares regained their footing on Friday, climbing 1.7% to close at €8.54, as investors weighed a mixed batch of news: a robust October export performance, a broker's lowered price target, and the company's public pushback against rumors about its driver-assistance software.
The rebound followed a weaker session earlier in the week that media reports tied to Piper Sandler's decision on Tuesday to cut its price target on the Hong Kong-listed automaker from HK$95 to HK$74, while keeping a Neutral rating. The stock recovered alongside other Hong Kong-listed auto names after BYD moved to quash speculation about its in-house intelligent driving systems.
Software Denial Sets the Record Straight
On Wednesday, BYD rejected online claims that production of its "God's Eye C" driver-assistance system had been halted. The company also disputed suggestions that it would swap its self-developed solutions for an outside supplier, affirming its commitment to fully in-house development and pledging to keep updating its own software.
The clarification came as BYD continued to roll out new product. Also on Thursday, according to media reports, the automaker launched the second-generation Seal 07 in China, offered in both battery-electric and plug-in hybrid form. The all-electric version carries a claimed range of 775 kilometers under China's CLTC standard and features BYD's Flash Charging; pricing with trade-in starts at RMB 135,900.

October Deliveries: Growth Slows, Exports Soar
Operationally, BYD reported unaudited figures on November 1 showing roughly 490,000 new-energy vehicles sold in October, a 10.97% increase from a year earlier — down from the 17% growth recorded in September. Exports accounted for about 170,000 units, more than doubling year-on-year with a gain of 102.84%.
Reuters noted that overseas shipments helped offset sluggish domestic demand and fierce price competition in China, where the company has been under pressure. For the January-to-October period, BYD sold approximately 3.6 million vehicles, still 2.16% below the prior-year level despite the October uptick. Reuters had already linked the stock's advance on November 2 to the release of the sales data.
Profitability Under a Cloud
The cumulative earnings picture has also softened. Nine-month results published roughly two weeks ago showed net profit attributable to shareholders slipping 4.2% to RMB22.34 billion, and Reuters reported that third-quarter profit growth fell short of analyst expectations.

Separately, BYD on Friday warned Chinese vehicle owners about fraudulent recall notices circulating via media reports, advising that official recalls are communicated through authorized dealers and require neither payment nor the disclosure of sensitive bank details. The company also disclosed a partnership with vivo covering the integration of smart devices with new-energy vehicles.
