BYD's Fangchengbao Passes 600,000 Sales as Malaysia Assembly Deal and Q3 Board Date Take Shape
Published on 10/19/2026 at 09:42 | Editorial boerse-global.deBYD's premium sub-brand Fangchengbao has crossed 600,000 cumulative vehicle sales, the Chinese electric-vehicle maker said, with media reports putting September deliveries for the marque at 43,181 units — a 79% jump on the same month a year earlier. The milestone lands alongside a busier corporate calendar: a memorandum of understanding signed in Shenzhen on Thursday, a board meeting set for 29 October 2026, and a European expansion still under review.
The Shenzhen agreement brings in Inokom, a subsidiary of Sime Darby, as BYD's local partner for completely knocked-down (CKD) assembly in Malaysia. Neither side disclosed which model lines will be built or when production will start.
September Volumes and a Premium Push
Group-wide, BYD sold 463,561 new-energy vehicles in September, its best monthly showing of 2026 and a 17% increase year on year. Battery-electric cars accounted for 273,143 of those, plug-in hybrids 183,570, and exports reached 180,700 units.
The model offensive continued into October. On 13 October the company launched the Da Han electric sedan in China, priced from 235,900 RMB, with rear-wheel-drive versions rated at up to 1,008 kilometres of range on the CLTC cycle. At the Paris motor show, BYD also showed technology-focused premium models from its Denza brand as it courts higher-spending buyers.
Charging Rollout in Indonesia, Assembly in Malaysia
Infrastructure is moving abroad in parallel. On 14 October BYD introduced its Flash Charging technology in Indonesia together with the Denza D9 and Z9GT, both using the second generation of the company's in-house Blade Battery. BYD says the system can charge from 10% to 70% in five minutes, and it plans 100 charging stations in the country by the end of 2026.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying BYD?
The Malaysian tie-up with Inokom is the latest step in building regional manufacturing capacity through local partners rather than going it alone. BYD's international profile is getting a further lift from its selection as official partner of the APEC summit in 2026; according to media reports, the delegation shuttle fleet will draw on the core BYD brand as well as Denza, Yangwang and Fangchengbao vehicles.
Europe: Atto 8, a French Plant Under Review
In Europe, the group unveiled the seven-seat Atto 8 in Paris, equipped with the second-generation Blade Battery and fast-charging technology, with European sales slated to begin in the first quarter of 2027.
Executive Vice President Stella Li said on 12 October that France is under close consideration as a factory location and that BYD is eyeing two additional European manufacturing sites in total. France sits on the shortlist, though no final investment decision has been made.
Trade policy forms the backdrop. China and the EU agreed to cap Chinese hybrid vehicle exports to the bloc at 350,000 units a year. BYD, according to Reuters, views the arrangement as short-term pressure but remains committed to Europe. A separate headwind comes from Beijing: the Chinese finance ministry and the state tax administration said roughly a week ago that the VAT rebate on exports of alternative-drive vehicles will be cut from 13% to 9% on 1 April 2027.
Shares Mark Time Ahead of Q3
Investors get fresh insight into profitability next week, when BYD's supervisory board meets on 29 October 2026 to review and approve unaudited results for the third quarter ended 30 September 2026.
The equity has had a subdued run. The stock added 0.9% to EUR 8.42 in today's trading, but is down 21% since the start of the year. It closed at EUR 8.34 last Friday, a 22% decline year to date, with market participants focused on how the hybrid export negotiations will affect margins in the European business.
