BYD Warns of Fake Recall Letters as Piper Sandler Trims Target and October Sales Hit Record
Published on 11/08/2026 at 09:10 | Editorial boerse-global.deBYD's fraud-prevention unit has issued a public warning over counterfeit recall notices circulating in China that invoke the automaker's name to harvest personal data and banking details. The bogus letters falsely claim a defect in the brake pedal, according to the company, which stressed that genuine recalls are free of charge and never require payment or the disclosure of sensitive financial information. Official recalls, BYD added, are communicated through authorized dealerships.
The alert, reported on Friday, capped a busy week for the Shenzhen-based manufacturer — one that also brought a downbeat broker note, a new model launch, a denial of online rumors and another month of record electrified sales.
Piper Sandler Cuts Its Target
Piper Sandler lowered its price target on BYD to HK$74 from HK$95, keeping a neutral rating on the stock. Media reports linked the move to the share-price weakness seen that day. The quarterly results had already weighed on the shares after profit fell short of analyst expectations: Reuters reported net profit attributable to shareholders of RMB 10.02 billion for the third quarter of 2026, up 28.1% year on year.

Seal 07 Second Generation Lands
On Thursday, BYD rolled out the second generation of the Seal 07 in China, offered with either a battery-electric drivetrain or a DM-i plug-in hybrid setup. Five trim levels are available, according to media reports, with the pure-electric version rated at 775 kilometers of range on China's CLTC cycle and equipped with BYD's Flash Charging technology. Regular prices run from CNY 139,900 to CNY 172,900, while trade-in pricing is quoted at CNY 135,900 to CNY 168,900.
A day earlier, the company pushed back against internet claims that production of its God's Eye C driver-assistance system had been halted. BYD also denied reports of a shift in its smart-driving solutions and reaffirmed its commitment to fully in-house development.
October Volume Sets a High for the Year
Sales figures released on November 2 showed BYD moving roughly 490,000 new-energy vehicles in October — an 11% increase from a year earlier and its strongest monthly performance of 2026 so far. About 170,000 of those units went to export markets, which Reuters said underpinned growth while domestic demand stayed soft amid fierce price competition at home.
For the first ten months of the year, the group reported around 3.6 million vehicles sold, a decline of 2.16% compared with the same period a year earlier.
