BYD Weighs a Third European Plant as the ATTO 8 and a Five-Star Pickup Lead a Two-Pronged Push
Published on 10/17/2026 at 17:51 | Editorial boerse-global.deBYD is scouting France as the possible home of another European factory, Executive Vice President Stella Li told broadcaster BFM on Monday, with the Chinese group aiming to build two more plants on the continent in total. The move would put manufacturing closer to its European customers and soften the trade-policy headwinds the carmaker faces — a strategy being rolled out alongside a product offensive that now stretches from a seven-seat flagship SUV to a pickup truck.
Unveiled at the Paris Motor Show on Monday, the ATTO 8 packs a second-generation Blade Battery with 115 kilowatt-hours of capacity and, by the company's own figures, a combined WLTP range of up to 653 kilometres. It is due to reach European showrooms in the first quarter of 2027.
The pickup flank is already delivering. BYD confirmed a five-star rating in the European Euro NCAP safety test for its SHARK DMO, a result the testing body said drew on work by partner organisation ANCAP plus supplementary European tests. The model's UK launch was announced on Thursday, with pricing from ÂŁ47,295 including VAT.
Charging infrastructure is the third leg of the plan. Having presented the ATTO 8 in Paris earlier in the week, BYD intends to bring its in-house FLASH fast-charging system to Europe, with media reports pointing to roughly 100 FLASH stations by the end of 2026 and a network of 3,000 by the end of 2027.

September Deliveries Up 17%, Overseas Shipments Jump 153.9%
Sales momentum held in September 2026, when BYD delivered 463,561 new-energy vehicles worldwide — an increase of just under 17% on the same month a year earlier. Passenger-car and pickup shipments outside China were the standout, climbing 153.9% to 179,877 units. Across the first nine months of the year, total deliveries of just over 3.13 million vehicles came in slightly below the prior-year period.
Europe contributed its share of bright spots. In the United Kingdom, BYD booked a record 20,140 new registrations in September and took second place in the monthly ranking. In Germany, 65% of the brand's registrations that month went to private buyers.
The picture is less rosy at home. BYD has called the understanding between Beijing and Brussels a foundation for a reliable trading environment, yet Chinese demand is cooling: data from the China Passenger Car Association showed the share of new-energy vehicles in Chinese passenger-car purchases slipping in the first half of October compared with the previous month. Possible EU import restrictions on hybrids and cuts to Chinese tax incentives for vehicle exports have added to the pressure.

BYD at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
Even so, several analysts remain constructive. Bernstein's Neil Beveridge reiterated his buy recommendation on 9 October while cutting his Hong Kong price target to HK$130. Citic Securities had reaffirmed its "Buy" rating and HK$130 target the day before. Elsewhere, JPMorgan reportedly lowered its target recently, and CGS International trimmed its target for the US-listed shares to $13.20 from $14.53 on 7 October, keeping its buy call intact.
The next hard data point comes on 29 October 2026, when BYD's board of directors meets to review third-quarter results.
