CSG closed out the trading week on a firm footing, with the defence group's shares advancing 5.6% to EUR 15.66 on Friday. The gain came as European defence names drew broad support after EU leaders gathered in Brussels and reaffirmed their backing for Ukraine, according to dpa. Over the past seven sessions the stock has added 11%.

At the centre of the week's activity was a portfolio move that takes CSG into entirely new territory. On Tuesday the company disclosed a 9.5% stake in Canadian satellite and space-technology firm MDA Space, making it the largest single shareholder of the business. Reuters reported that CSG flagged possible future cooperation, including manufacturing investment in Europe and acquisitions, and set up a dedicated space team alongside the purchase. Jefferies analyst Chloe Lemarie gave the stake a positive read on Tuesday, pointing to the prospects for a strategic partnership.

Unmanned Systems and Drone Defence

Technology tie-ups rounded out the week. On Monday, CSG subsidiary Excalibur International signed a cooperation and distribution partnership with US navigation-technology developer Bavovna, under which Excalibur will handle market access and commercial sales. The arrangement covers systems for adaptive autonomy and alternative navigation built for unmanned vehicles; no financial terms or customer orders were disclosed.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying CSG?

Earlier, on 8 October, CSG's Federal Ammunition and its The Kinetic Group munitions unit joined forces with US partners O.F. Mossberg & Sons and Palladyne AI. That collaboration is aimed at developing SwarmShot, an autonomous system for intercepting drone swarms from the air.

Caspian Artillery Plant

The latest agreements build on industrial plans unveiled roughly two weeks ago. CSG set out accords that will lead to the creation of a second joint venture in Azerbaijan, where self-propelled howitzers are to be manufactured locally. The project carries a revenue potential of EUR 1.8 billion for CSG over a multi-year term, with series production scheduled to begin in 2027.

Whether Tuesday's space stake explains Friday's share-price move is not established, though Reuters treated the MDA Space holding as the standout operational development of recent days. Taken together — the entry into space, the unmanned-systems partnership and the planned artillery production — the company is widening its industrial base, pairing high technology with conventional armaments. Execution of the newly signed agreements over the coming months will now be the test. Investors get their next checkpoint on 11 November 2026, when CSG publishes its trading update for the third quarter of 2026.
