DeFi Technologies Launches AI-Driven Crypto Hedge Fund as Shares Extend Rally
Published on 09/22/2026 at 07:51 | Editorial boerse-global.deDeFi Technologies is pushing beyond its established exchange-traded product business into active asset management, unveiling a new hedge fund vehicle just as a broad crypto rally lifts both its share price and the outlook for its core issuance operations.
The Toronto-listed company, operating through its subsidiary Valour Inc., has established Valour Funds SPC, a Cayman Islands-domiciled structure registered with CIMA. Its first offering, the Smart Crypto Fund SP, launched yesterday and targets professional and qualified investors exclusively.
Quantitative oversight of the portfolio sits with Neuronomics AG, a Swiss asset manager licensed by FINMA in which DeFi Technologies holds a minority stake. The system relies on AI ensemble models that digest price, volume and market data across short and medium-term horizons. Positions in liquid digital assets are sized dynamically: capital is deployed selectively when the risk-reward profile turns favorable, and the system pulls back when signals weaken. Fixed risk budgets, per-position caps and market-risk controls govern overall exposure, while execution runs through liquidity- and cost-calibrated algorithms. Investment management, fund administration, custody, execution and auditing are kept organizationally separate.
A Second Engine Alongside the ETP Franchise
The move layers active management on top of a product shelf that has so far centered on Valour, which by its own count offers more than 100 regulated exchange-traded products tied to digital assets. DeFi Technologies also runs Stillman Digital for institutional liquidity and DeFi Alpha for arbitrage strategies. Additional hedge fund launches are planned under the Valour Funds SPC umbrella. Management did not disclose the fund's minimum investment, fee structure or target size at launch.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying DeFi Technologies?
The timing lands in the middle of a powerful upswing in digital asset markets. Bitcoin climbed 5.7% to $85,111, setting an eight-month high, while Ethereum also advanced to its strongest level in eight months. Short liquidations totaling $648 million added fuel to the move, and exchanges are betting the surge will draw fresh inflows into crypto-linked exchange-traded products.
That dynamic matters directly to DeFi Technologies. As the issuer of crypto certificates through Valour, rising token prices typically translate into higher assets under management and stronger fee income.
Share Price Climbs on the Crypto Tailwind
Investors responded quickly. The stock gained 8.3% on Monday to close at EUR 0.4916. The advance follows a 13% jump in the prior session, when the shares finished at EUR 0.5130 — a run that has left the equity trading 15% above its 50-day moving average.
The company's second-quarter report, released roughly a month ago, showed revenue slipping to $7.8 million. Valour, however, drew net inflows of $22.8 million over the same period, and a liquidity reserve of $119.8 million gives management room to absorb temporary market weakness and keep strategic projects moving.
Nasdaq Deadline Looms
Regulatory questions around the U.S. listing remain on investors' radar. About two weeks ago, Nasdaq granted DeFi Technologies a 180-calendar-day extension, running through March 3, 2027, to regain compliance with the $1.00 minimum bid price requirement for its shares.
