DroneShield wins an initial RfRecon order from a Western European military user and fields DroneSentry-X Mk2 on US infantry vehicles.

DroneShield's push beyond counter-drone hardware into battlefield signal intelligence has landed its first commercial foothold. On September 8, the Australian defence technology group booked an initial order for RfRecon, its AI-driven radio-frequency reconnaissance device, from an existing military end user in Western Europe. Delivery is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026.

Management flagged the contract as immaterial in financial terms, yet the deal carries symbolic weight: it opens the market for a product that extends DroneShield's reach from jamming and interception into the detection side of electronic warfare. Armies increasingly want early warning of hostile emissions across the electromagnetic spectrum, and the company is positioning RfRecon as a complement to its established DroneSentry line rather than a replacement.

US Infantry Vehicles Cleared for Field Use

Progress on the American front has moved from installation to active service. Under the Joint Interagency Task Force 401 programme, DroneShield completed fitment and acceptance testing of its DroneSentry-X Mk2 systems on US military infantry vehicles, and the equipment has now transitioned into field deployment. A contract amendment adds three further units to the order.

Those commitments sit on top of a growing contracted backlog. Roughly a week ago, DroneShield reported secured revenue of A$251 million for the 2026 financial year, placing it inside its own guidance corridor of A$250 million to A$270 million. A further A$46 million has already been locked in for 2027 and beyond.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying DroneShield?

Guidance Reiterated Despite Sector Turbulence

The company is holding firm on its full-year outlook even as the share price struggles. For fiscal 2026 it targets total revenue of between A$250 million and A$270 million, equivalent to growth of 15% to 25% year on year. New technology is expected to carry the second half, with first sales of the next-generation RfRecon platform anticipated, alongside further announcements on countermeasure systems slated for the back half of the year and into 2027. On profitability, management is aiming for a gross margin recovery toward 65%.

The balance sheet offers room to manoeuvre. Half-year 2026 revenue came in at A$126 million, reported about a month ago, and the company carries no debt. Cash and term deposits stood at A$180 million at the half-year mark — a cushion that funds continued development of the defence platforms while the market waits for fresh order intake.

Lowde to Take Finance Reins in November

On the leadership side, DroneShield confirmed on September 10 that Rebecca Lowde will become Chief Financial Officer, effective November 2, 2026. The appointment is intended to broaden the management team's operational experience as the business scales.

Sentiment around the stock remains subdued. The shares closed the previous session down 2.2% at EUR 1.03, and were trading 3.1% lower at EUR 1.03 during the latest session amid continued volatility across the defence sector. Year to date, the stock has shed 43%. Company-specific headwinds, including an investigation by the Australian securities regulator ASIC, have added to the pressure from broader industry swings.

Execution now takes centre stage: delivering to US forces, completing the European project, hitting the revenue targets, and preparing for the finance transition.
