Erste Group has picked up a string of "Best Private Bank" awards across several of its markets, a reminder of the franchise strength underpinning a stock that has drawn diverging verdicts from sell-side analysts in recent days.

The Vienna-based lender's shares changed hands at EUR 111.50, a level that sits below the EUR 128 six-month price target Baader Bank set on Wednesday when it lifted its recommendation to "Add" from "Reduce," according to media reports. The upgrade followed the group's nine-month report on 30 October, in which Erste posted a net profit of EUR 3,095 million for the first three quarters of 2026 and raised its full-year guidance.

Guidance Raised Across the Board

Management now expects loan volume, including Erste Bank Polska, to exceed EUR 290 billion. On net interest income, the group projects growth of more than 6% for the business excluding Poland, while commission income is seen rising by roughly 10% on the same basis. The cost-income ratio is targeted below 46%, and return on tangible equity — ROTE — is forecast at over 20% for 2026.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Erste Bank?

The Polish unit is folded into the loan-volume target but excluded from the net interest income and fee expectations, a distinction that reflects the pending ownership change at Erste Bank Polska.

Buyout Bid Targets Majority Stake

Erste launched its voluntary takeover offer for Erste Bank Polska shares on Monday, with the acceptance period opening on Tuesday. The group is offering around PLN 713 per share, aiming to lift its holding from 49% to more than 50%, with a ceiling of 75%. Settlement of the offer is scheduled for December 2026.

Analyst reaction to the results has been mixed on price targets even where ratings remain constructive. Barclays on Monday nudged its target to EUR 137 from EUR 136 while reaffirming "Overweight," citing third-quarter net profit that beat expectations by 4% and the bank's freshly raised guidance. Mediobanca moved the other way on Tuesday, trimming its target to EUR 145 from EUR 150 but keeping an "Outperform" rating.

Rally Lifts Sector

The stock added 1.6% to EUR 113.20 on Wednesday as European banking shares rallied broadly in the wake of the US midterm elections. Traders pointed to rotation out of US technology names and rising ECB rate expectations, according to media reports.
