Abu Dhabi's government has disclosed that its stake in Evotec has fallen from 5.62% to 0.00%, according to a voting rights notification published on 15 October. The threshold was crossed on 9 October, and the holding had been maintained indirectly through Mubadala Investment Company. The mandatory filing confirms a shift in the shareholder base — nothing more. It carries no implication for revenue, earnings quality, or scientific progress, and investors would do well to keep the ownership change and the business outlook in separate compartments.

That distinction matters because Evotec has simultaneously delivered a set of preliminary figures that beat expectations, and the market's reaction to both pieces of news has been notably measured.

A Beat That Comes With an Asterisk

Roughly a week before the stake disclosure, the company reported preliminary, unaudited nine-month numbers for 2026: group revenue of around EUR 465.0 million and adjusted group EBITDA of roughly EUR ?42.8 million. Both topped market expectations, according to the company. Evotec attributed the gap primarily to the timing of consensus estimates — a detail that tempers the significance of the surprise. Beating those forecasts is not the same as an improved full-year outlook, and the company duly left its guidance untouched.

For 2026, Evotec still expects group revenue of around EUR 570 million to EUR 610 million. On the earnings side, the negative outlook stands as well: adjusted group EBITDA is projected at around EUR ?70 million to EUR ?105 million for the full year. The better-than-expected interim figures and the unchanged loss forecast sit side by side.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Evotec?

Two Analysts, Two Emphases, One Rating

The analyst community has picked up on both threads without turning more bullish. Berenberg, in a note dated 16 October, described the results as surprisingly strong and highlighted momentum in discovery and preclinical development. Yet the firm kept its rating at "Hold" and reiterated a price target of EUR 3.60. Deutsche Bank Research had arrived at a similar verdict about two weeks earlier — "Hold," with a price target of EUR 3.50 — while also acknowledging that the headline numbers exceeded expectations. Deutsche Bank added a caveat of its own, calling the market's view of the fourth quarter surprisingly gloomy.

The two assessments do not contradict each other. Both recognize the positive surprise; they simply place the accent differently, with Berenberg stressing the research side and Deutsche Bank flagging limited confidence in the closing quarter. A strong interim scorecard and a cautious outlook can coexist.

A New Scientific Chief, and a Date to Circle

Separately, Evotec has appointed Dr. Joanna Holbrook as Chief Scientific Officer and member of the management board, effective 1 November 2026. She will lead the company's global scientific strategy. The appointment concerns future scientific leadership — it is no more a reported earnings advance than the voting rights change is an operational setback.

Evotec at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

What will settle the open questions is the full release of third-quarter and nine-month 2026 results, scheduled for 5 November 2026. Until then, the preliminary figures and the confirmed annual guidance remain the yardstick for judging the business. How Evotec reconciles the research momentum with its wary fourth-quarter expectations — and whether the loss trajectory shifts at all — is the piece of the puzzle investors are still missing.
