Fatal Fire in Chinese Resettlement Complex Raises Questions Over Safety Failures

A devastating fire at a resettlement complex in Anhui province has left two children dead and two adults critically injured, after residents discovered that the building's fire safety infrastructure was completely non-functional. In the aftermath of the tragedy, further controversy has emerged over the property management's conduct. Staff members were allegedly observed replacing expired fire extinguishers and altering or forging safety inspection records to suggest compliance with regulations.

The property manager has reportedly resigned following the incident. Local sub-district officials stated they were initially unaware of the specific safety failures, while Mr Tian noted that his multiple attempts to report the matter to police did not immediately result in a formal case being filed.
