Helus Pharma (HELP) rallies 50% in 30 days as new CEO takes helm, Phase 3 trial enrollment closes early, and sector M&A boosts psychedelic medicine optimism.

The stock market has a short memory, but Helus Pharma is betting that a string of recent operational wins will prove more durable than the scars of early 2026. Shares of the psychedelic-medicine developer, listed under the ticker HELP, climbed 8.72% on Wednesday to $10.97, pulling the equity within 5.59% of its 52-week high of $11.62. The rally extends a remarkable stretch: over the past 30 days, the stock has added 50.60%, and it now trades roughly 23.35% above where it started the year.

Wednesday's session also brought a fresh platform for the company's pitch. Helus Pharma is presenting at the 46th annual Canaccord Genuity Growth Conference, where management is scheduled to hold a fireside chat around midday EDT — an opportunity to court institutional investors and potential partners at a moment when the sector is enjoying unusual attention.

A New Hand at the Helm

The optimism has a human face. Michael Halstead was officially appointed chief executive on August 3, taking over from Eric So, who had steered the company on an interim basis since April 20. The permanent installation of a CEO is meant to anchor the strategic execution of the clinical pipeline during what could be a decisive stretch for the company's most valuable asset.

That asset is HLP003, a candidate being studied for major depressive disorder (MDD). On July 21, the company announced that patient recruitment for the Phase 3 APPROACH trial had closed ahead of schedule — a milestone that analysts read as evidence of strong interest from both patients and trial sites. The accelerated enrollment raises the odds of an earlier-than-expected data readout, which would hand the company a crucial inflection point.

Capital, Recalibration, and a Setback in the Rearview

The company's balance sheet has also been reinforced. On June 25, Helus Pharma closed an underwritten offering that generated gross proceeds of $50 million, followed four days later by the release of its fiscal 2026 results. Those funds are earmarked for the ongoing research programs, including the Phase 3 push.

But the road to this point has been anything but smooth. On March 5, the stock suffered a severe blow when topline results from a Phase 2 study of HLP004 — a candidate for generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) — missed its primary endpoint. That failure forced a strategic reassessment of the portfolio, redirecting resources toward the more advanced HLP003 program and away from earlier-stage bets with a lower probability of success.

The pivot appears to have resonated with sell-side analysts. Wells Fargo reiterated an "Overweight" rating on the stock in late July, setting a price target of 16 CAD.

Sector Winds at the Company's Back

Helus Pharma is also benefiting from a broader shift in the pharmaceutical industry's appetite for mental-health innovation. Large drugmakers have been moving into psychedelic medicine with conviction: Eli Lilly's acquisition of AtaiBeckley, valued at roughly $2.8 billion, stands as a marquee example, while AbbVie and Otsuka have also committed significant capital to partnerships and acquisitions in the space. That wave of dealmaking has lifted the valuation benchmarks for specialized biotech firms operating in the same arena.

With a fortified balance sheet, a settled leadership team, and a fully enrolled Phase 3 study now in the rearview, the company has assembled the institutional scaffolding it needs for the months ahead. The next major catalyst — data from the APPROACH trial — will ultimately determine whether the current rally is a reflection of genuine progress or merely a sentiment-driven reprieve.
