Helus Pharma's Share Surge Puts RSI at 85 — But the Real Catalyst Arrives in Q4 2026
Published on 08/09/2026 at 17:02 | Redaktion boerse-global.deThe biotech rally that has lifted Helus Pharma's stock to within a whisker of its 52-week high is a story of converging catalysts: a new chief executive, a freshly padded balance sheet, and a clinical trial that wrapped up patient enrollment ahead of schedule. Yet for all the momentum, the company's valuation debate remains strikingly unresolved.
Shares closed Friday at $11.61, up 4.59% on the day and 48.47% over the prior seven sessions. That puts the stock just cents below its 52-week peak, with the 14-day Relative Strength Index standing at 85 — a reading that typically flags an overbought condition.
A Leadership Handoff and a Nasdaq Fresh Start
The company, which rebranded from Cybin to Helus Pharma in early January while shifting its US listing from the NYSE American to the Nasdaq Global Market under the ticker "HELP," announced on August 3 that Michael Halstead would take over as CEO. Halstead previously served as president at Intra-Cellular Therapies, and his mandate is to steer the company from clinical development toward commercial operations.
That transition phase requires capital, and Helus has been busy securing it. The company ended June with $83.8 million in cash, then followed up with an additional $175 million in follow-on financing. Earlier in the summer, a registered share placement of 10,309,280 common shares at $4.85 each brought in gross proceeds of $50 million.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Cybin (Helus Pharma)?
Not everyone on the inside was buying. CFO Greg Cavers sold roughly 70,655 shares on July 20 — about 45% of his holdings — at an average price of $6.10, netting approximately $431,000. Insider sales of this kind are routine, but the timing, just before a sharp run-up, invites scrutiny.
The Clinical Backbone of the Rally
The fundamental driver, however, sits in the pipeline. On July 21, Helus reported early completion of patient recruitment for the Phase 3 "APPROACH" trial evaluating HLP003, a deuterated psilocin analogue targeting major depressive disorder. Topline data is expected in the fourth quarter of 2026. The compound has carried FDA Breakthrough Therapy designation since March 2024 — a status that can expedite development but offers no guarantee of approval.
The twelve-month earnings picture remains deeply negative, with EPS at minus $4.25, an expected profile for a clinical-stage company with no product revenue. The current rally, in other words, is built on expectations rather than earnings.
Analyst Targets Diverge Sharply
Wall Street's view of the stock is anything but uniform. Wells Fargo initiated coverage on July 27 with an Overweight rating and a $16 price target. Canaccord Genuity reaffirmed its Buy rating on August 3 with a far more ambitious target of $42. HC Wainwright, meanwhile, trimmed its price target for the CAD-listed shares from C$95 to C$70 in early July. All three calls predate the latest leg of the rally, leaving investors to guess where the targets might land next.
A valuation model from Simply Wall St suggests the stock is roughly 69% undervalued against an estimated fair value of $37.57 — though such model-based estimates warrant caution.

Sector Tailwinds and a Key Earnings Date
The broader psychedelics space is also drawing fresh attention. Eli Lilly's announced $3.8 billion deal has been described by observers as potentially transformative for the sector, pulling investor focus toward companies like Helus operating in adjacent territory.
The company is scheduled to report fiscal first-quarter 2027 results on August 11. That report should indicate whether the strengthened balance sheet and new leadership are translating into tangible progress — or whether the recent euphoria is running ahead of clinical and commercial reality. The Q4 2026 data readout will ultimately determine whether Helus Pharma emerges as a pioneer in psychedelic medicine or a cautionary tale in a sector still searching for its footing.
