Hensoldt's Record Order Haul Fails to Shield Stock From Rheinmetall Fallout

Hensoldt posted 76.7% order growth and raised its 2026 revenue outlook to about EUR 2.8 billion, yet shares fell 3.8% as a Rheinmetall profit warning hit the sector.

Hensoldt delivered the kind of nine-month report most defence investors would celebrate in isolation: orders up 76.7%, revenue ahead by more than a fifth, and a margin target sharpened to around 19.0%. The market's verdict, however, was a 3.8% slide on Friday, as a profit warning from Rheinmetall soured sentiment across Europe's defence sector and dragged the smaller Frankfurt-listed group down with it.

The pressure was already building a day earlier. Rheinmetall's downward revision to its annual guidance, first flagged by dpa-AFX, rippled through the entire sector on Thursday, and Hensoldt found itself caught in the slipstream even as it raised its own revenue outlook for 2026 to roughly EUR 2.8 billion. Media reports suggested the upgraded top-line target still fell short of the analyst consensus — a reminder that in a sector priced for perfection, good news has to be exceptional to move the needle.

Order Book Swells Past EUR 10 Billion

The operating numbers themselves were robust. Order intake for the first nine months of 2026 climbed 76.7% to EUR 3.56 billion, lifting the backlog to EUR 10.4 billion. Revenue rose 21.3% to EUR 1.86 billion over the same period, while adjusted EBITDA advanced 33.0% to EUR 281 million.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Hensoldt?

Alongside the revenue guidance of around EUR 2.8 billion, Hensoldt set its adjusted EBITDA margin at approximately 19.0% and said the ratio of order intake to revenue should land at the upper end of its prior 1.5x to 2.0x range.

Two Houses, Two Verdicts

Analysts stuck to their positions after the Thursday release. Jefferies reiterated its buy rating with a EUR 98 price target, with analyst Ben Brown describing the 2026 revenue target as conservative and noting that both sales and adjusted EBIT had beaten consensus. JPMorgan, by contrast, kept its neutral stance and a EUR 100 target; analyst David Perry acknowledged that revenue and operating profit came in above market expectations, but the bank saw no reason to shift its recommendation. Neither house altered its rating or price target following the figures.

Attention now turns to Hensoldt's capital markets day in London on 10 November, the next scheduled date on the company's calendar and the first full opportunity for management to walk investors through the strategy behind its upgraded targets.
