Infineon has thrown its weight behind Europe's early-stage hardware scene, launching a free support programme for start-ups working on physical AI, robotics and industrial AI. The Physical AI Growth Lab, unveiled Thursday alongside UnternehmerTUM Accelerator, Microsoft and NVIDIA, will take in 10 to 15 selected companies between January and April 2027 — and participants give up no equity to join.

The package on offer goes well beyond desk space. Chosen start-ups get access to Azure credits worth USD 350,000 as well as technology from NVIDIA and Infineon itself, extending the partners' existing cooperation into backing young technology providers.

The initiative lands on a busy stretch of deal-making and product news for the Munich chipmaker. A day earlier, Infineon deepened its collaboration with NVIDIA on power supply systems for AI data centres, with the focus on gallium nitride-based systems for 800-volt DC architectures — above all the high-voltage intermediate circuit converter.

Software Tools Get an AI Upgrade

Development tooling has moved in parallel. On 20 October Infineon added an AI assistant for Microsoft Visual Studio Code to its ModusToolbox software ecosystem, giving AI coding agents hardware-related context for PSOC Edge and PSOC Control microcontrollers. A day earlier, the company named the winners of its Startup Challenge 2026, a competition devoted to humanoid robotics technology, with AdapTronics taking the prize.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Infineon?

On the manufacturing side, Infineon and Wolfspeed agreed a multi-year supply contract on 15 October for 200-millimetre silicon carbide wafers. Infineon says the deal supports the shift of its production from 150 to 200 millimetres and strengthens the resilience of its supply chain.

Analyst Trims Target, Keeps Buy Rating

Sentiment around the stock got a mixed read from the sell side. Christopher Rolland of Susquehanna cut his price target on Infineon from EUR 100 to EUR 85 on Wednesday, according to media reports, while reaffirming his positive rating on the shares.

The broader chip sector provided the tailwind. Infineon shares climbed 4.2% on Thursday, helped by sharp gains among US semiconductor names, a friendlier mood across the industry and a new automotive partnership between Volkswagen and NXP, under which NXP will supply microcontrollers for the Volkswagen group's future software-defined vehicle architecture. For Infineon, the arrangement counts as part of the positive sector backdrop rather than a direct order. European equities more broadly recovered, with Reuters reporting gains as oil prices eased and corporate news turned supportive.
