Infineon Rolls Out LinearFET for EVs While GaN Bet and AI Ties Take Shape
Published on 11/01/2026 at 11:30 | Editorial boerse-global.deInfineon introduced its LinearFET MOSFET technology on Tuesday for power distribution in electric and software-defined vehicles, with the company saying the products are available. The launch lands as the German chipmaker pursues a broader push into gallium nitride (GaN) power semiconductors and deepens partnerships across AI data centres and robotics.
Those growth efforts sit alongside a tougher stretch for the stock. Infineon shares fell 4.5% on Friday, caught in a global selloff across semiconductor equities after Intel's disappointing outlook. Reuters reported that the weak guidance rippled through chip names in the US and Asia as well as European manufacturers, with Infineon explicitly among those hit.
Intel's Soft Guidance Sets the Tone
Intel's downbeat fourth-quarter 2026 forecast was the trigger. The US chipmaker projected revenue of USD 15 billion to USD 16 billion, short of the USD 17.1 billion analysts had been expecting, according to media reports. Reuters also pointed to persistent weakness in the PC market and mounting concerns over the cost of expanding AI capacity. Worries about the AI spending plans of major cloud groups, following Amazon's results, added to the pressure.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Infineon?
A EUR 1.1 Billion GaN Bet in Villach
Beyond the day-to-day share price moves, Infineon has committed roughly EUR 1.1 billion to its Villach site through 2034. The Austrian plant is earmarked to host the world's first high-volume production of GaN power semiconductors on 300-millimetre wafers, with output scheduled to begin at the end of 2027. The announced funds are intended to build out manufacturing at the site.
NVIDIA Ties Deepen on Two Fronts
On 21 October, Infineon said it had expanded its collaboration with NVIDIA on power supply systems for AI data centres. The work covers GaN-based systems operating at 800 volts DC. A day later, Infineon teamed up with UnternehmerTUM Accelerator, Microsoft and NVIDIA to launch the "Physical AI Growth Lab." The accelerator targets start-ups in physical AI, robotics and industrial AI, and does not take equity stakes in participating companies. It is slated to run from January to April 2027, with Infineon one of four partners behind the programme.
Susquehanna Trims Its Target
Analysts have turned somewhat more cautious. On 21 October, Christopher Rolland of Susquehanna cut his price target on Infineon to EUR 85 from EUR 100, while reaffirming his positive rating on the stock.
Investors now look ahead to 10 November, when Infineon is due to report results for the fourth quarter and the 2026 fiscal year. The date is listed as provisional in the company's financial calendar.
