Infineon's Indian Team Grab and 27-kW Server Push Cut Against a Sector-Wide Selloff

Infineon acquired C2i Semiconductors, opened a Bangkok backend site and launched a 27-kW AI server power design as chip stocks slid.

Infineon has spent the first half of October quietly stacking up engineering capacity and data-center hardware while the wider chip complex absorbed a global beating. The Munich-based semiconductor maker closed its acquisition of Bengaluru-based C2i Semiconductors on October 5, folding the Indian team into its Power Systems Division. Two days earlier, on October 1, it cut the ribbon on a backend manufacturing site in Bangkok, where the company says up to 1,000 skilled positions are planned.

Those moves sit alongside a broader push into power architectures for AI infrastructure. On October 8, Infineon rolled out a 27-kW three-phase power supply reference design for AI servers, built to meet the OCP Open Rack V3 specification and aimed squarely at the electricity demands of modern data centers. A high-voltage hot-swap controller, the XDP8HD40S-1, followed on Monday, targeting server architectures running at ±400 V and 800 VDC. Samples of that component are slated to become available in the second quarter of 2027.

A Sector-Wide Chill, and One Stock's Rebound

The announcements landed in a rough stretch for semiconductor equities. On Tuesday, the sector came under selling pressure worldwide, dragging Infineon's shares down to a close of EUR 56.48. The trigger, according to a dpa-AFX report, was a mix of doubts about the profitability of multi-billion-euro AI investments, technological advances by Chinese memory chipmaker CXMT, and a warning from Broadcom chief Hock Tan about inflated expectations and financing difficulties in capacity expansion.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Infineon?

By Wednesday, the stock had steadied. Infineon shares climbed 0.8% to EUR 56.93, putting the paper roughly 0.6% above its 200-day moving average of EUR 56.60. For the year to date, the equity still shows a gain of 50%, a reminder that the recent consolidation sits inside a much stronger longer-term run.

Quantum, Robotics and the electronica Stage

Longer-horizon bets are moving in parallel. On October 7, Infineon and ZuriQ announced an expansion of their partnership to develop scalable hardware for quantum computing, pairing ZuriQ's ion-trap architecture with Infineon's semiconductor manufacturing, packaging and photonics expertise. Such a project won't deliver quick quarterly revenue, but it signals an intent to help shape fundamental technology shifts early.

Infineon also laid out its priorities for the upcoming electronica 2026 trade fair, running November 10 to 13. The company plans to showcase system solutions, semiconductor innovations and concrete customer examples spanning "Physical AI" in robotics, mobility, edge devices and the broader AI infrastructure stack.

November's Double Header

Market watchers now have a fixed date to work with. Infineon has scheduled the release of its fourth-quarter and full fiscal-year 2026 results for November 10 — the same day the electronica fair opens its doors. The report should give concrete insight into how demand across industrial markets and the company's new AI-infrastructure products are translating into revenue.
