Infineon shares closed Friday's session up 1.8% at €45.85, clawing back ground a day after a sell-off of more than ten percent knocked the German chipmaker sharply lower. The recovery came as Bernstein pushed back against the scale of the market's reaction, calling it overdone.

The trigger for Thursday's rout was a wave of anxiety over artificial intelligence infrastructure spending. According to dpa-AFX, investors fretted that tighter restrictions following the Democrats' victory in the US midterm elections could slow the build-out of data centres — and that the hefty sums being poured into AI might not pay for themselves quickly enough. The agency noted that turbulence in US technology stocks had preceded the slump, with the selling pressure rippling across the Atlantic to hit European semiconductor names, Infineon among them. Reuters reported the same day that the sector-wide exodus had swept up European chip stocks.

JPMorgan Sticks to Its Guns

Against that nervous backdrop, JPMorgan reaffirmed its "Overweight" rating and €96 price target on Wednesday, leaving both its investment verdict and its target unchanged. Analyst Sandeep Deshpande flagged the possibility that Infineon's targets for 2027 could come in slightly ahead of consensus. A separate buy recommendation issued Monday pointed to capital spending by major cloud and data-centre operators alongside encouraging sector signals, and it too carried a €96 target.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Infineon?

A €1.1 Billion Bet on Gallium Nitride

While the market wrestled with AI sentiment, Infineon pressed ahead with its manufacturing build-out. On October 27 the company unveiled roughly €1.1 billion of investment at its Villach site through 2034, aimed at establishing what it describes as the world's first high-volume production of gallium nitride power semiconductors on 300-millimetre wafers. The European Commission has approved €319 million in Austrian state aid to support the expansion and the planned high-volume output.

Infineon has also extended its infrastructure on home soil. On October 28 it opened a new office and laboratory building in Warstein, where around 350 employees are set to move in; the lab space covers some 1,200 square metres.

November 10 in the Diary

The next major catalyst arrives on November 10, when Infineon is scheduled to publish results for the fourth quarter and the 2026 financial year. The company has set the release for 7:30 a.m. CET, though its financial calendar still lists the date as provisional. The electronica trade fair also opens that day and runs through November 13.
