Infineon Technologies has widened its automotive footprint through a technology agreement with Qualcomm Technologies, a deal that lands alongside a broader push into gallium nitride (GaN) power semiconductors and AI data-centre supply hardware. Shares in the German chipmaker were up 2.4% on Monday, though no single company announcement has been confirmed as the driver behind the move.

The Qualcomm tie-up centres on a microcontroller-based subsystem destined for Snapdragon Ride reference platforms, aimed at the central vehicle computers that underpin software-defined cars. Driver assistance, automated driving and digital cockpits all fall within the scope of the collaboration, giving the partners a foothold across several core computing functions in the vehicle.

A Cluster of Power-Silicon Launches

Infineon's power portfolio has been moving on several fronts at once. On 27 October the company unveiled its LinearFET MOSFET technology for power distribution in electric and software-defined vehicles, and on the same day rolled out new OptiMOS 7 Automotive MOSFETs in TOLL packaging, spanning components across a range of voltage classes.

Two days earlier, on 26 October, Infineon said it would supply Enphase Energy with monolithic bidirectional GaN switches for the latter's solid-state transformer power modules. According to the company, these are the world's first switches of their kind rated at 900 V, with production qualification still to come. The components are intended for applications including AI data centres.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Infineon?

Also on 27 October, Infineon presented a high-voltage power distribution board for AI data-centre supply architectures. The reference design is scheduled to become available from November 2026.

Villach Bet Backed by EU Chip Funding

At the manufacturing end, roughly EUR 1.1 billion is heading into existing cleanroom space at the Villach site, with the investment programme running through 2034. The plant is earmarked for what Infineon describes as the world's first high-volume production of GaN power semiconductors on 300-millimetre wafers, with output due to begin by the end of 2027. Support under the European Chips Act amounts to EUR 319 million.

Beyond silicon, Infineon recently teamed up with UnternehmerTUM Accelerator, Microsoft and NVIDIA to launch the Physical AI Growth Lab, an accelerator aimed at European start-ups working in physical AI, robotics and industrial AI.

Infineon at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Investors will get their next hard read on the business on 10 November 2026, when Infineon publishes fourth-quarter and full-year figures for fiscal 2026. The date is flagged as provisional. The stock's advance came against a downbeat sector mood: according to media reports, Friday brought worries over the cost of AI build-outs and a weak Intel outlook that weighed on European semiconductor names.
