IonQ closed its all-stock purchase of Elisity on Wednesday, issuing common stock worth $1.15 billion to the sellers. A further $150 million is on the table if revenue milestones are met through January 2028 — a conditional kicker rather than cash in hand.

The deal lands days after a 23% rally in the shares, set off by Thursday's quarterly release and a raised full-year outlook. With the acquisition terms now public, investors have a second set of numbers to weigh alongside the growth story.

A 336% Leap, With a Catch

Third-quarter 2026 revenue hit a record $173.8 million, up 336% from a year earlier. Of that total, $83.5 million came from SkyWater, whose newly consolidated contribution now shapes the group's scale in a meaningful way. The platform business offers a cleaner read on underlying demand: IonQ Platform revenue climbed 127% to $90.3 million, and more than 40% of that segment's sales came from customers buying multiple products — a signal of breadth, provided it hardens into recurring business.

The profit line tells a more complicated story. A non-cash gain of $896.2 million from revaluing warrant liabilities did the heavy lifting, while adjusted EBITDA came in at a loss of $133.6 million. A year earlier, that loss was $48.9 million. The gap between headline earnings and cash burn is the number to watch: until rising revenue starts narrowing the shortfall, the economic payoff of the sales surge for shareholders stays limited.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying IonQ?

Guidance Raised, Backlog Stacked

Management lifted its 2026 revenue forecast to $505–515 million and put remaining performance obligations at $1.2 billion. Capacity for Superion-256 in 2027 is sold out, and the company is already taking orders for the following year. A planned Superion installation at NVIDIA fits the same pattern — a marquee name whose value will be settled by actual deployment rather than the announcement itself.

IonQ also advanced to Stage C of DARPA's Quantum Benchmarking Initiative, a program with a potential value of up to $300 million. That figure represents an opportunity, not a guaranteed order.

Capital, Customers and Commitments

Funding is not a constraint. IonQ raised $2 billion in October, lifting pro-forma cash and investments to $3.7 billion — a buffer that buys time to prove the model, though existing holders carry the dilution. On the customer front, a partnership with QuantumCT will give organizations in Connecticut access to IonQ machines, including more than 150 hours of cloud runtime. A $7.5 million follow-on award from the Air Force Research Laboratory, reported on October 27, covers phase two of a quantum networking project and forms part of the previously announced $21.1 million collaboration rather than fresh money.

IonQ at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

For Commonwealth member states, IonQ pledged access to quantum computing and teaching, support for selected finance authorities on post-quantum migration, and radar imagery plus analyst time for small island nations. The company will attend the Cantor 2026 Crypto, FinTech, AI & Energy Infrastructure Conference in Miami on November 11.

The Scoreboard Tightens

Analysts are adjusting their marks. Morgan Stanley reiterated "Equal Weight" and trimmed its price target to $40 from $43. The debate has shifted from whether demand exists to whether IonQ can convert its loaded order book into economically viable business — improving operating leverage while shipping on schedule. With capacity full and capital in hand, execution is now the central test.
