IREN Lands Two Wall Street Endorsements as Texas Power Hub and AI Contracts Take Shape

Shares of IREN are drawing fresh attention from the analyst community, with two major houses delivering upgraded views within days of each other. Northland Capital Markets initiated coverage on Friday with an "Outperform" rating and a $99 price target, implying a 128% upside from the prior close of $43.48. The call lands just over a week after JPMorgan made a more dramatic move, lifting the stock two notches from "Underweight" to "Overweight" on September 14 and raising its fair value estimate from $46 to $65.
The twin endorsements reflect growing conviction in the company's pivot toward high-performance computing infrastructure built for artificial intelligence workloads. Management is betting that large-scale data center projects and long-term partnerships will capture surging demand for specialized compute capacity.
Contracted Revenue Piles Up
That bet is already showing up in the numbers. On July 20, IREN disclosed multi-year agreements worth a combined $2.8 billion, with roughly 85% of the target locked in at that point. The fourth-quarter fiscal 2026 report added another multi-year deal with a leading AI lab, pushing contracted annualized recurring revenue to $4 billion for the targeted capacity. Operating ARR stood at $1 billion at the end of August.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying IREN?
To fund the hardware behind those commitments, IREN is leaning on structured financing rather than direct purchases. Dedicated GPU financing totaling $2.8 billion covers about 90% of the capital expenditure needed for the processors — an arrangement designed to speed deployment without weighing down the balance sheet.
Sweetwater Hub Advances Through ERCOT Queue
On the power side, IREN's 2-gigawatt Sweetwater Hub was admitted into ERCOT's "Batch Zero" process roughly two weeks ago, subject to conditions, and classified as baseload capacity. The associated infrastructure is taking shape: the Sweetwater 1 high-voltage substation came online earlier in 2026, and construction of 300 megawatts gross of data center capacity is underway at the same site, with handover targeted for the fourth quarter of 2027.
Software Play Bolsters the Story
Beyond bricks and megawatts, IREN has been building out its software capabilities. The company closed its $625 million acquisition of Mirantis on August 4, picking up cloud infrastructure software and workload management tools. Management also released fourth-quarter fiscal 2026 results and its annual report on August 27.
Market Tailwinds and a Modest Pullback
Broader market conditions have added fuel. Bitcoin climbed roughly 4.9% over 24 hours, a move traders attributed to recent regulatory developments in the United States that have revived interest in crypto- and data center-linked names. IREN shares rose 4.0% to EUR 42.28 at the start of the week, extending their upward trend, though pre-market trading later showed the stock at EUR 40.55, down 1.6%. Even with that slight consolidation, the equity is up 19% over 30 days and 25% year-to-date.
