The numbers coming out of IREN look like the kind of story that should send a stock soaring. New multiyear cloud contracts worth $2.8 billion. A revenue target for 2026 raised to more than $4 billion annually. A business model that owns its own power infrastructure in an era where grid access has become the single biggest bottleneck in artificial intelligence.

And yet the shares have been in freefall. On a seven-day basis, the stock has dropped 26.58 percent, and over the past month the decline has widened to nearly 36 percent. At Thursday’s close of €25.64, IREN now trades 62.63 percent below the 52-week high of €68.61 it touched back in November.

The market is not ignoring the company. It is pricing in something else entirely.

The $6 Billion Question Hanging Over Every Trade

The immediate catalyst for the sell-off is an equity financing program that is spooking investors far more than any contract win can reassure them. IREN launched an at-the-market offering in March worth up to $6 billion, and by the end of April it had already raised $1.06 billion in gross proceeds by selling 24.7 million new shares. The program is designed to fund the company’s GPU fleet expansion, but it comes with a cost: relentless dilution.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying IREN?

That dilution risk has collided with a governance controversy that is further undermining confidence. Reports have surfaced of a dispute over a share package for the co-CEOs valued at roughly €700 million to €800 million. For investors, the math is simple: management is asking them to swallow both dilution and a potentially massive executive payday at the same time. The growth story may be intact, but the trust is fraying.

A Customer Concentration Problem That Won’t Go Away

Even before the governance questions emerged, analysts were flagging a structural vulnerability in IREN’s business model. Evercore ISI pointed out that three counterparties — CoreWeave, SpaceX’s AI division, and IREN Limited itself — account for roughly $42 billion in projected revenue, or about 70 percent of the total. By contrast, Dell counts more than 5,000 customers for its AI server solutions. IREN’s client base is dangerously narrow.

This is the Achilles’ heel of the so-called neocloud sector: companies that pour capital into AI infrastructure but rely on a handful of anchor tenants to justify the spending. When those tenants are healthy, the model works. When questions arise about any one of them, the entire thesis wobbles.

Ambition Meets Execution Risk

The revenue targets are real, but they are not yet revenue. Analysts caution that the annualized recurring revenue figures IREN cites are not GAAP earnings. Actual income depends on delivery schedules, commissioning timelines, testing phases, and customer acceptance — all of which introduce uncertainty.

The scale of the ramp is staggering. IREN plans to grow its own AI cloud capacity from roughly 3 megawatts a year ago to 480 megawatts by the end of 2026. That requires completed construction projects and a steady supply of GPUs, neither of which the company fully controls. The capital to finance that build-out is secured for now, but the equity program means further dilution is baked into the outlook.

Wall Street Still Sees Value — But the Gap Is Enormous

Despite the rout, analyst sentiment has not collapsed. Twelve analysts rate the stock a buy on average, with only one sell recommendation. The 12-month median price target stands at $75.18, more than double the current share price, and the most bullish target reaches $100. Goldman Sachs, however, has maintained a neutral stance since the July 20 contract announcement, underscoring the wide divergence in views.

IREN at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

On a technical basis, the stock looks deeply oversold. The 14-day relative strength index has fallen to 30.0, a level that historically signals waning selling pressure and often precedes a bounce. The shares are now trading roughly 40 percent below their 200-day moving average, an extreme deviation that highlights just how far the stock has strayed from its medium-term trend.

A Stock That Trades on Two Narratives at Once

IREN’s annualized volatility stands at 102.31 percent, a figure that reflects its dual identity. The company is still perceived as both an AI infrastructure play and a crypto mining name, and when both sectors come under pressure simultaneously, the stock gets hit twice. That dynamic explains the brutal distance from the 52-week high far more than any single piece of news.

The operational transformation from Bitcoin miner to AI cloud provider is working — the 12-month gain of 81.30 percent proves as much. But the short-term path remains treacherous. Until management provides clarity on the capital structure and resolves the governance dispute, the stock is likely to stay under pressure, no matter how many billions in contracts the company announces. The oversold RSI marks a potential inflection point, but whether buyers actually step in will depend on what IREN says next about dilution — not about demand.
