A childcare provider has agreed to pay €18,500 to a child who fell ill during a suspected E.coli outbreak nearly a decade ago, in a settlement that highlights the long tail of food-safety failures in early-years settings.
Junior Genius Childcare Limited reached the settlement with Freyja Byrne, now 11, following formal court approval of the terms on July 30, 2026. The case stems from a suspected E.coli outbreak at the creche in September 2017, which forced the facility to close temporarily under direction from the Health Service Executive (HSE).
